The 200gr .358 AccuBond HP. Just do not incert the pointed tip. Or fill it with lead, or just make the rod portion of the palstic tip with a short rounded end that just fills the cavity like a protected point bullet?

Would this now work for a 350rem or 358win. Ya still hoping

The regular 200 AB will work for those as is. The 200 AB's are a bit shorter than the 225 Sierra and those work great out of both.

Fotis, I got confirmation direct from Nosler that the ogive profile will not allow for loading in the 2.8" mag length Remington short actions.

Man that is not good. I went strictly by length which is fact is shorter that the SBT 225. What a shame.

I am with you, that is what I was talking about before. They stated they weren't for the short 358's, so I gotta wonder what they are good for?

They are going light for the 35 Whelen. It would be nice to have this particular weight for the .358.

200 for the whelen is like 180 gr for a 338 maggie.

Yep, I guess so. While you can get some great speed outta the 180's in the 338WM, I would think they would have hit the 250 AB with the 358 if they were going to work on a bullet for the Whelen. No worries on my part though, the 225 AB and 250 PT are great bullets. It would be a heckuva good deer and elk bullet I imagine, but I tend toward the heavier end of things most of the time. Personal Flaw I guess!

I was wondering if the bullet legth less the tip would make it usefull in the 358win?

It may be just me but for the Whelen having both 250gr and 225gr Accubonds would be more usefull than a 200gr.

The 225gr Partition is a great bullet for the 358win and 350rem. But a cheaper 220-225gr bullet for the shorties would be nice. Like the soild base bonded .224 as seen in a different post here. Which would be usefull in any 35 cal from the 358win and up.

The 200gr in the 358win is a bit lacking. Once the 220gr is crossed it has better SC and BC as well which is sufficent for what it would be used for untill the PT is required.

I am kinda excited about the 200gr. for the 35 Whelen I think it will give me another bullet that will be great for deer both Whitetail & Mulie. I would think that we should be able to attain 3000fps in a good bolt action rifle.

Blessings,
Dan

I don't know if you'll get 3000 out of it, but I would think 2900 should be pretty close. That would be nothing to sneeze at though. Heck, the 300WSM would have trouble pushing a 200 grainer that fast!

Your right though Dan, it would be a screamer for deer, and in all honesty, I would run it into an elk too, but I am doing well with the 225's and 250's right now.

I just can't wait to get my 35 Whelen  I know that it is going to be something real special. I think that the Mrs. and I are going to travel and get it.
Meet that young man Dr.Mike
PS. Scott you are likely right on that 2900fps is attainable. I might be a 1 rifle type of guy after this/NOT.

Blessings,
Dan

After seing how well the 225 gr AccuBond performed on the moose last year I wouldn't hesitate to use the 200 gr either. I hope they get this bullet out soon :)

For the catridges where the bullet may be a bit long why not trim the tip back a bit? Should work.

You would be surprised, I have to talk myself out of using the Whelen most of the time Dan.

You will love the Whelen its a fine all round cartridge that works for small 90lb deer and is exceptional on elk/moose. The hart of the whelen is MEDIUM velocity which keeps excesive meat damge down to a minimum.
Thats on an 80lb or 1,000lb animal. If muzzle velocity is under 2700fps for the average range game is shot at your good. Obviously if you pushing the yards over 200 extra velocity would produce the same impact velocity. I have no use for a 358/200gr at 2900fps I have a 270win for that which at less than 200 yards ruins more meat than I care for.

For me its 225gr for most of my hunting needs and the 250gr bullets when the situation calls for it. I like to keep any caliber at a minimum near the .250 SD. mark for any thing from deer and up. The 35rem loves the 200gr at 2200fps (its all the case can handle) and would perfer a 220gr for the 358win over a 200gr

What? You have a rifle over here, Dan? I know nothing about it! I'll just pick up another scope and see what I can find, but don't hold out any hope that I'll find your rifle?

That is just mean!

Mean? Moi? Surely you don't mean "mean?" However, I believe I can learn to shoot left-handed, or trade it in for one that has the bolt on the right side.
