How Many Rounds in the Rifle

I just havvvve to stuff the mag full with afull box in the backpack.Never needed more than one but the thought of anything less than a full mag just makes me cringe.

I used to hunt with a NEF handi, but fell in love with a savage 116 acu-trig, accu-stock. Again Thanks POP for the advice on the savage.

Same! All it will hold and 4 on my Butler Creek Alaskan sling plus 10 in a shell holder in my fanny pack. Sometimes a wounded animal in open country at long range will eat up a lot of ammo before it's over. I followed my antelope for most of a mile trying to get in the finishing shot. It's amazing how far and fast they can run on 3 leggs.

1  I hunt 98% of the time with one flavor or another from Thompson Center. Did go on a turkey hunt the other day with something totally different though..... Revelation 16 gauge... single shot

With my main hunting bolt action rifles I always load what will fit in the magazine without one in the chamber. That is 4 with non mag rounds and 3 with mag rounds. That way all I have to do when climbing in and out of a stand is open the bolt and push the round that was in the chamber down in the magazine and close the bolt on an empty chamber. Once I get into the stand I just work the bolt and load the chamber. I carry about 10 extra rounds in a belt pouch. When hunting with my Contender pistol I carry two rounds in a wrist band on my left wrist just in case I need a quick follow up shot. For many years I have always carried a pocket pistol 32 or 380 ACP just in case I needed to put the finish on something. I have had to use it just a couple of times on deer that I have hit high on the front shoulder and cut their spine but does not kill them outright. Pop them in the head and they are done for.
