In a previous post, I said that I was disappointed in the grouping that I was getting with the new Howa 1500 in 7mm-08, that I had gotten for my wife. After some help from list members, telling me to reduce the OAL to get some "jump" to the lands, the groups are more than adequate.
I saw far enough ahead to buy the model with the Youth stock and the full size stock. I may even put on the longer stock and use the rifle myself.
My overall opinion is that the Howa 1500 is a very good value in it's price range. The wife is happy with the rifle and claims that she is feeling less recoil than with her H&R HandiRifle in .243Win.! Her groups have really tightened up and she is doing better with the 7mm-08 than she ever did with the .243Win. Now, I just have to get her in front of some wild pigs, before she goes after Antelope and Mule Deer in Wyoming this Fall!
The Howa is a fast handling little rifle that is light in weight. I would recommend the Howa 1500 to anyone looking for a new rifle.
