I'm lookin to replace the stock on my Remington 700 XCR because I dont care for the rubber molding on it I dont mind the camo finish but Im thinking of a HS Precision stock and was wondering if it will be a drop in fit or would there be some modifactions that will need to be done?

I got one of the H&S full bed varmint stocks and my Rem 700 long action with a #6 Shilen barrel dropped right in with no modification at all. I also got a Hogue full bed stock for another Rem. 700 and it dropped right into it also. Both seem to be good stocks.

Most of the time you don't have to do anything if you got the right stock for your rifle. I like to glass bed all my stocks, but that is not something that has to be done. I think it just helps the action and first few inches of barrel be as solid as can be in the stock.

With the HS Precision, in general, the Remingtion 700's and Savages are drop in, Winchester model 70's must be bedded, but it still doesn't hurt to bed the Remmy's and Savages.

before you make a final decision on your stock I would take a good look at the MacMillan stocks. I purchased one as a replacement for my factory stock on my 700 in .338RUM. It fit like a glove and I was told by the tech at Macmillan don't bother bedding the rifle, it doesn't need it. When I shot the rifle and got 1 3/4 groups at 200yards I forgot about the bedding. The difference in price is negligible.

300RMEFshooter,

I have a nice used HS Precision Pro Series in basic black for a 700LA if interested, it has the full bedding block. If interested, holler. Asking $200. Picked it up for a project and changed my mind.

IMHO, what drop in means, is that it might fit. All rifles will benefit from a good bedding job, wether you see it on paper or not.

If your thinking about spending a bit more, McMillian hands down. My 338 wears one and I LOVE IT! The custom marble finish makes for one sexy rifle.

HS Precision has full aluminum bedding block - pretty much a drop-in stock. HS guaranteed half inch accuracy without doing anything to it. McMillan on the otherhand requires bedding and they're a bit on the heavy side and you have to pay a bit more. You can't go wrong with either one.
