Based on what I have on hand I've decided on two loads for Montana this fall. I have a good supply of both bullets on hand.

Looks like you're ready for the season. If you ever get the notion to try Superformance, I've found it to be a great powder with the 140 and 150gn Sierra Game Kings. RL-19 is good also. Oddly enough, they're right next to each other on the powder burn rate chart, according to the powder technician I spoke with at Hodgdon's.

Either of those will work quite well for game this fall. Good job, Tecumseh.

Very nice. Both of them look like they will be perfect!

Which rifle are you sending them downrange from?

TC Encore Pro Hunter.

Those are some fine loads you have there for your 280 Rem. Either one will do the job.

The barnes 140gr TTSX shot great out of this rifle too, the gameking was the only 160 gr bullet I could get to shoot out of this rifle. At 280 velocities they should both work great.

I've shot FED Premium 140TSX for the last 10 years and have not had one issue whatsoever. That is something worth looking at without a doubt.

Thanks for the reminder. That might be good elk medicine when I get the chance to go.

I need to get to loading for my pair of .280's here soon. I need to take a look at those loads.

Mike,

My go to loads for the 280 Rem is:
140 gr 57.0 grs RL19
160 gr 54.0 grs IMR4831.
Both shot under .5 MOA in my rifles.

Thanks Jim! I've got RL19 and plan on using 140's. I see they have 140BT's on SPS right now. 13.80 a bag

Nice groups!! Those .280 Remington's are great rifles. I used IMR4350 with 140 gr. Partitions in my .280 and it sure liked them. I messed a just a bit with H4831SC right before I sold the rifle and it shot that powder with the 140 equally as good as the IMR4350.

I can't wait to get my hands on my 280AI when it is all finished up.

140BT's and that Nosler brass you have squirreled away locally, with some RL19 in there would have you in Mule Deer hunting heaven pretty quick Mikey!

No doubt the PTs will perform wondrously on mulies. I found an excellent load with H100V and 140 grain PTs. I hold this load in reserve as I'm confident that it'll work on moose, elk and grizzly should I meet one and have to have a bit more "oomph." I have excellent velocities and good accuracy with this combination.

The 149 gr PT is a good all around bullet for the 280.

Can't beat the Partition and the 140 seems to be a terrific bullet weight for the .280 Remington.

My first 280 Rem loved the max loads listed with IMR 4350 in both the Nosler #3 Manual, the Barnes #1 Manual, and Hornady #3, with their respective 160/162 gr bullets (PT, X and Interloc). 5 shot groups 1" or better at 200 yards. Never did chrony those loads in that Browning A-Bolt Composite Stalker.
So far, I have only tested the 145gr LRX with a couple of powders that look promising, but will require further testing. Now have the 150gr LRAB and will be testing this summer. Hoping to get similar performance to DrMike (3100 fps and sub-MOA) in my rifle. New rifle is a customized Rem 700 LH XCR.
I like the heavier bullets in the 280, but as I am shooting the 160's in my STW, wanted a lighter bullet in the 280 this time.
I did harvest a young elk with the Federal Premium 140gr AB ammunition last fall. The rifle shoots that factory load sub-MOA.

My latest .280 responded to 150-grain Partitions first, so I've stuck with them. I don't see how you can go wrong with anything from 139 grains to 160 grains!
