With only 16 days left until big game season begins, I'm sitting here getting more and more anxious by the day. It's not just about killing, but that sure is fun, well up until the gutting begins ;) This season will be special for me. My dad is flying out here to go on his first Colorado hunt with me. We will also be hunting with a few of my air force buddies including one young guy who has never been hunting before. Can't wait to get to the mountains and enjoy good times, stories, and a break from the city, base, and idiot drivers.
Scored bull, buck, and cow tag for the same season and the tags are good for 3 game units (hot with elk sign and nice big aspens and pines). We will be hunting 9-10,000 feet elevation in the White River National Forest. There are over 2,200 buck tags available for this area, so I don't mind telling yall. I will be hunting the second rifle season beginning on October 20th. The loads are tuned, guns sighted, now i am just itching to go! Time now to get the gear set out and get together the last minute stuff which shouldn't be too much.
I will be hunting with 180 accubonds in the 300 saum and 160 partitions in the 7mm mag.
Anyone else got a bad case of cabin fever?? Anyone been out yet??

Was out last week, moose-hunting in Dividalen, Northern Norway. We had three tags, only got one unfortunately. We were hunting with driving dogs. The moose in this area is used to confronting brown bears, so they are hard to hunt with dogs. They are hard to get to "stand", to stay still before the dog, so one can sneak in and shoot.
We used one "Swedish White moose-dog" and two Jamthund. Those are large breeds, wolfe-like sub-polar dogs.
A great week though ! Nice weather and beautiful nature. And i got to train my youngest dog, a "Norwegian Black Moose-dog".

Having my next trip in November, in southern Norway, for deer. Just me and my dog. Been hunting the same forest area there since 1991. Dense timber, tall pines. Hope to do some tracking on moose and elk, and maybe shoot me a deer or two !

Our deer season opened Sept 15th. So far, I have killed three does and one hog. We are on trophy management and haven't seen a buck that is big enough to shoot.Rick.

Here in Nebraska our season dosn't start untill Nov. 10th and runs till the 18th. That is our firearm season here (excluding muzzle loading season).
I hear ya man, Ive been ready since about june. I have been tweeking with my rifle since last christmas. I have put a Timeney trigger in, Put a limb saver on, Purchased a Nikon BDC scope.

I havnt had time to play with the BDC feature yet, I will get to in a week or two. I did get to shoot it a few times though. Trigger is a big improvement and for not sighting the scope in yet, its pretty accurate.

I have been doing research on some loads for my 270. and just havnt had the time to load any rounds. I hope that i will be able to get some peace and quiet and some alone time to load before season starts. I realize that I dont have much time left.

Then I have been looking at getting my rifle floated and bedded but that will have to come next season.

Sorry that I blabbed on so long, Just explaining that I have been in preperation for a while now and I am also excited.

I have to wait longer then you guys........ :(

Got a wt doe with the bow on Sunday. Leave for South Dakota tonight for a week of mule deer bowhunting. Return just in time to take my son out for our early season Youth Firearms hunt on the 13/14th. We're camping that weekend, sleeping on the ground even though it's only an hour from home. Really looking forward to it. His rifle is ready to go and he is too.

Good luck to everyone and be safe this season.

YoteSmoker,

Good luck to you ! I grew up in the middle of the White River Valley. The deer heard is finally on a decent come-back !
A couple buddies and I drew deer tags for an area south of G-Junction. Wife has a late season private land cow tag too.

I started last week with our Texas pronghorn season. Kudo's to you for getting a new hunter in the field!!!!

Good Hunting,

Bob

I just got back from my hunt. Ended up shooting a mulie buck at 286 yards with 7mm mag and 160 Partition. High shoulder shot. At first, I picked up just his head and some bones sticking out of the brush. He was facing downhill on a flat spot between two draws and was on the draw across from me. Anyways, the bullet found it's mark at 6 pm Friday and the meat's in the freezer. Between 5 guys including myself, we ended up with 3 bucks and 1 cow elk. Lots of snow at first, sore muscles, cold nights, but a very successful trip and lots of fun!

Well............. I was ready :)

2 Antelope and an elk... I got them all!

Yup....I was ready. 8)

I'm ready. Have bow hunted some this fall with no luck. Muzzleloader starts Saturday, though I have to work

I am really waiting for rifle season though. I have the new .280Remington that needs to take it's first blood and my new .480Ruger that also needs it's first blood....

YoteSmoker,
Congrats on the Mulie ! Your right that first weekend snow was a little cold. I guess I wasn't ready however because we wern't able to find what we went after this year. The Mulies were far and few. We spent hours glassing the hill-sides and bottoms with nothing to find but Elk running everywhere. Too bad we didn't have bull tags ----could have taken nice bulls daily.
The wife still has a cow tag and we'll go the end of Nov to hopefully fill the freezer.

Well bow season is over and no venison in the freezer :( Had some close incounters.
Rifle season begins Nov. 10th. I have to load up some shells and hope a nice buck walks by. I hope to see what the Nosler 110 gr AB will do to a whitetail. Yup, I'm almost ready.

No trophy pics of any animals but a lot of beautiful country to look over.
The Swaroskis got a work out on this trip.
