I'm a compulsive scope swapper, so I wasn't surprised by myself last week when I decided to move some scopes around just a week and a half before the rifle opener. The change put the Minox 3-15 on my .30-06. This happens to be the rifle I intend to have in my hands on Monday morning, so it was pretty crucial that I got it sighted in. Last Sunday I took the rifles out to get them boresighted and dialed in. After getting things pretty close at 100, I moved to 200 yds. After a few more shots and scope adjustments, I fired this three shot group:
It's tough to get a great measurement, but it's under 0.2". I guess I have myself a sub one tenth MOA rifle (kidding). I wouldn't have been totally shocked by a performance like that from my .223, but certainly didn't expect it from my .30-06. I guess, as JOC would say, the wibbles compensated for the wobbles. Obviously there was a fair amount of luck thrown in there, but I thought I'd share anyway.
I don't expect to ever see this rifle do something like that again, but you never know.
I'm off to the range tomorrow morning to do some fine tuning, then it's game on come Monday morning.
