Well this is my wife's CAR-15 or XM-177 depending on how you wish to classify it.

The specs on it are in my thread: My Wife's New Toy.

I'm building another one for myself and should have pics up within a week so 2. Mine will have a bit different appearance but it will be of the same classification.

Just sold wife's DPMS Oracle to a friend which will be his first every AR and he is having me tweek it out some changing the OEM furniture for Magpul and a Timney trigger.

This is my base AR. It is an Olympic Multi meaning it is meant for 5.56 or 223. Something alot of folks miss when buying an AR.

As you can see I have changed out the furniture with MagPul and I am using Dark Earth so that in reaching into the safe in a hurry I know which rifle is mine and which if the wife's without taking any extra time.

This is not the basis on my XM-177 I'm building so before long going to have another added to the safe.

It had taken the place of the shotgun in home defense for many and I can understand why.
It has it's place in a well stocked arsenal, and it's appropriate uses, and can be a lot of fun. Bolt actions however are what catch my eye.

Yeppers.... I normally keep them down but up for the photo.

Those are there in case something happens to the EoTech. I learned as a Marine to never completely trust anything that operates on batteries.

The pop-ups fit tight on the rails and seem to be solid puppies. I looked at others especially the front sight and they seemed kinda weak to me. Too slim to hold up under rigorous application. But that is my opinion and should be taken with a shot of whisky.

Ok guys, some of you know that I have strong negative feelings about the m16/ar-15 platform. These negative feelings are based on my 8+ years of military service with this platform. I won't get into an argument about that right now, but lets just say I never thought I would own one personally.

I'm with you having been a Marine & never had one that did not jam. I think very little of the M16's platform, but hearing good Reviews about Rock River & Les Baer rifles. I also realize this platform has been redesigned several times since I was issued my first M16 with the triangle hand guard. I also see the value of a semi-automatic rifle for calling Coyotes. I just have not gotten over my bad experience with this platform. I know it's Me but who are we other than our experiences. Still on the fence.

Well guys, i think im just going to get a rock river lower instead of an 80%'er. They are only $20-$30 more, for a stripped rra. That way my lower will match my upper.

I hear ya Screaming Eagle. After having used an M4 battle unit, I did not see the whole how to do about having an AR.

But that changed over the decades. I now have three. A Rock River, Daniel Defense and just picked up a Starlos with a polymer lower. My biggest complaint with the RR and the DD was the weight after you get them all dressed up.

I was at a gun show in Spocompton today and saw the Starlos guys booth there and figured I would see what that was about. After some talking, I left with E3 with a Melonite Barrel and bolt and a full rail for less than 800 bones for a complete AR less mag.

So take it out today. Fitted all of the rock river tati-cool garb on it and punched 100 rounds through it. So far so good. Of the three, it is definitely much easier to shoot as it weighs fully dressed as the other do bare.

Why do I like them? Not really sure. I would never hunt with one. I think it's just like a jeep thing. If I had to explain, you wouldn't understand..

I am kind of a weird bird. I also reload all of my ammo for all of my AR platforms.

The Rock River has the highest build quality, the Starlos is the lightest. The Daniel is the easiest to keep cleaned.. go figure

Just an update. I ended up buying a match lower from RRA for my "build". Also got a rifle length free floating quad rail from YHM, magpul flip up sights, magpul pistol grip, vertical grip, and ctr stock. Gonna run a vortex viper pst 1-4 on it. Maybe try to do my own kylon/sponge camo job. Who knows.

said I would not buy one after I retired but I bout 2 fairly close to each other, the first is a LMT 556 that shoots 77 gr BHG ammo into tiny holes and is a piston rifle with a Timney AR Trigger set at 3 Lbs as the 7.8 lb trigger was not working for me!


The second ridle is a Windham DI M4 no bells no whistles still unfired in the box :shock: but when I broke down and purchased them I said I wanted to try 1 of each and I will eventually get around to un boxing it as it was some of the first rifles to come outta the old factory in Maine! It will not get many upgrades as this LMT likes the heavier 556 and this Windham I am sure will shoot the 55 gr as its a 1-9 twist ! :mrgreen:
I like the Leupold VXR Patrol 3-9 but rig need's a Jenny Craig plan! Or some one that's bigger than me to carry it and I am 6 foot 295 :lol:
Yes I have cleaned it all up and picked up an Armor's Kit with everything Wheeler thinks ya need and it was the Pro kit with all kinda neat stuff the USAF would not give us and man it's nice to have a clean rifle! Pic above was just after scope install rite outta the box!

Well, here she is! I still have a few "gadgets" to install as well as a Vortex Viper PST 1-4 scope in their quick detach mount. I gotta say, I am very pleased with this "build". Everything is a nice tight fit. No clanking or rattling. Also very impressed with Magpul brand accessories. Their Pmags are awesome!!!

Specs are as follows:
Rock River Arms upper with carbine length gas system
RRA lower with national match trigger and 6 position stock (soon to be replaced with magpul ctr)
Yankee Hills rifle length, free float, quad rail
Magpul flip up open sights
