I think I have a problem...

I'm thinking i'm going to shoot stuff with it. :)

Don't mean that to be flippant.....for now, paper will be the 'victim', but deer are on the menu soon enough.

The pieces are being assembled (glass, mounts, brass, dies, bullets).....it won't take long to gather it all up. I just need the free time to get to the range, plus do the reloading.

Mine shoots the 130 gr Partitions so well that I never went any further with reloading development! So, for over 40 years, I have been using the same load and the rifle still shoots 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards. I have killed so many deer with it now that I will probably will it to my oldest son.

Good luck with yours and keep us posted on loads and progress? I have one of the Zeiss HD5, 3-15x42 scopes mounted on mine now and it shoots really well with that scope.

I will do that, Charlie.

I have Robert haggling on WW brass for me, Scotty is hooking me up with some 150BT's and 150PT's, I have primers and a selection of suitable powders (I'm liking the looks of RL22), and my dad has dies he hasn't used in 20 years, since that's when he sold his only 270. I'm hoping to hit the range with it next weekend...and this should get me moving at the reloading press to get my 300WSM and a few others over the bench, too.

I have a half a mind to stop at Cabela's after the acquisition, as they have a Cabela's brand Euro 3-9x42 in the bargain cave for $310. That's a Meopta Meopro rebranded, and CLNY's demo price on the same scope is $429.99. I have $150 in gift cards, too, and the seller knocked some cash off my end of the deal for supplying him with surplus ammo and some Garand clips. I'd have to come about $70-$80 out of pocket for the scope....and I'm a huge Meopta fan, so this may just be fate.

Can't knock a Meopta Meopro, But have you looked at the new Vortex Diamond Back HP series? If they were 44mm they would closely match up to the Zeiss Conquest I have. Nice M70 by the way.

Very nice rifle Tom! Can't think of a better rifle for a guy that is in love with 30-06's!

No matter what scope you put on it, it'll be nice. Plus, it's another Pre64 and since they don't make them anymore, you'll never lose!

Can't wait to see what it does at the range. Any idea how/when it was used by the previous owner. Sometimes it's neat to know the rifles history.

Don't let him bug you Tom, We will find some .308 Bitter Roots just to make him buy a 30-06.
Now lets get every one looking just for some Bitter Roots in .308 so Scotty can own a 30-06 :!:

Back from the deal...got the Meopta, too. Came out of pocket $179 for it.... hard to beat that deal!

As for Scotty, don't mind him. He's still torqued because I have more pre64's than he does, and one is a 300H&H!

Thanks, Scotty. I have no doubt we'll get you situated with a 300 Holland & Holland in due time. You won't want to get any other 30 mags.....

What I can't understand is why you never see a pre-64 7x57. Last night I looked though GunsInternational and Guns America...nary a one. They even had several 220 Swifts but no 7x57. I need one to complement my 1952 270.

The 7x57 in a Pre64 would be the top of my wants. Between it and a 358 Winchester, they are pretty danged rare birds. About like a 300 Savage.

Winchester only produced about 1400, 7mm Mauser chambered, Model 70 rifles from 1935 through 1959.

IF you find one in a 7 Mauser on a pre64, be prepared to reach far into your pocket to own it. Very far.
