Dang. Got out a week ago for a few rock chucks. Thought that would satisfy the hunting lust. No such luck.

Maybe fishing will help.

I need to hunt. Bad... Didn't get drawn for spring bear. Spring was super busy anyway and I didn't get out for turkey either.

Bear season opens in August and I'll be out there... But what to do until then??? More rock chucks may bite the dust... Not sure that's going to help much though..

I feel your pain. I went out for turkey a couple weeks ago, but didn't see any. I want to go out to test some 250gr AB's in my 338, but I only have so many, & everywhere is back ordered on everything I want. Even the match bullets I use. I hope it isn't too hot for bear. I won't hunt when it's 80*. Spend too much time cleaning sweat off my rifle.

Same here, Guy. That is why I've turned to fly fishing from here on out the rest of the summer.

In fact, I'm heading to TN next weekend for some trout fishing. I plan to not only hunt WY antelope in late Sept/early Oct but will also be doing some fly fishing on the Green River and possibly Flaming Gorge after I tag out.

Taking out my nephew's 10 yr ols son this comming weekend for Turkey.
Then its back to yard work with a fishing trip in there for some King Salmon.
Sure hope I pull a bear tag for Sept. My 1895G 45-70 is ready to go!

Yup. Fly fishing, a little varmint shooting and some target practice is going to have to fill the need for now...

This fall promises to be a good hunting season though!

Hang in there guys - fall will come!

Fly Fishing.. Oh Man..... Am I gonna get flamed here..

I guess I am one of those "barbarians" who use hardware when I fish for trout and salmon.. . I have noted tho when I fill my box of kings, cohos, brownies, lakers and steelies, I find that one of my fish wont fit in a creel. In fact, those brownies you fly fisherman so lovingly glow about on a Monday morn, look similar in size to the bait I am using when running meat rigs..... C'mon JD338, I know your a barbarian too....

The above was the typical exchange with my boss when I lived in MI. Man that banter was fun.... He was the picture perfect guy outta a Orvis catelog.

I guess everybody has their character defects....

Hey Guy,

You could go after some of those sturgeon you got out there on the Columbia, start off small by wrestling the little 6' ones and work your way up to the 9' ers.

Cripes now I have talked myself into wanting to go fishing really, really bad. And no intent above of pi$$ing anyone off.... Just having fun.... Fishing is fishing, regardless if some like to fish for baitfish....

For some reason I went kind of nuts for fly fishing about 15 years ago and have largely gone to it alone... Not quite, now and again I'll go toss spinners or something. I do like fishing with the fly rod though:

I'll fish for anything from bluegill to salmon... And carp too! They're amazing game for the fly fisherman...

This weekend...

Looks more like hog fishing to me.

I do like to dispel the rumor that fly rods are good only for 12" trout...

While eating crow for the last few hours and trying to find my pix of bigger fish caught w/hardware.. I think I'll just shut up and go get another serving of crow....

Gorgeous fish there Guy... But I must add that your hat does not look like std Orvis issue.....

Fishing is fishing, dont matter if your catching Tarpon or Bullheads, its a good thing.

nodak7mm - I just happened to fall in with a bunch of fly-fishing nut cases about 15 years ago and had so danged much fun flicking the fly that I pretty much stopped fishing with my regular gear. Never did go in for the "designer" look to my fly-fishing attire as you can see. Just stuff that will keep me more or less warm and dry. Fell in that doggone river one winter, up to my eyebrows, with snow all along the banks. Waders started to fill up. That was a scary situation, but I kept my grip on the rod, swam to the other side. Got out, dried off, found some dry clothes back at the truck and continued to fish!

My best fishing bud uses hardware all the time. He has a fly rod, but I've never seen him use it. It's always fun when we go - sometimes he gets more fish, sometimes I do better. Have to admit that he generally out-fishes me... There is always a good-natured banter about hardware vs flies...

I fish for salmon & steelhead whenever I can. Mostly here in Washington, but I've made a few trips to Alaska to fish the silver run as well. Big fish on a fly rod are a hoot!

Just made plans to fish this weekend with my son. Probably just for bluegill, perch, crappie and maybe bass at the local pond. It should be fast action though!

This fall I've got plans for:
WA black bear
WA mule deer
WA elk (archery)
Wyoming mule deer (if drawn)

Just need to see what tags I draw. Have also put in for the unobtainable bighorn sheep, mountain goat and moose tags here in Washington... It's going to be a busy hunting season once it gets here!

Regards, Guy

Guy, perhaps you would be willing to post a new thread and put my ugly mug and the bear on it, then I could tell my most recent adventure.

Let me say this....I am NOT a fly fishing elitist! I love to eat the fool out of my catch. Yes, I release a lot but I NEVER go home without something to eat. I use hardware for bass and bluegill but fly fishing is just something I enjoy on the side.

Great pictures of the fish     Good stuff Guy, I am ready to hunt again also.

I just got home from visiting my family and catching lakers and kings in South Haven, MI. I stopped in Grand Island, NE overnight and got a tour of the Hornady plant in the morning before legging it back to Denver. Spent the day getting ready to head to Medicine Bow/Shirley Basin WY in the morning to do a little prairie dog shooting over the weekend. Can't really call it hunting, as it is more like sniping biodegradable pop up targets from the bench, but will be a lot of fun! After this vacation is over, I might actually get some rest

JD338, I wish I could have met up with you for lunch, but I donated my cell phone to the Black River one evening after fishing while trying to move some downrigger poles around in the boat and hit the phone which WAS sitting on the dock with the butt end of a rod. This is the second phone I lost or damaged while fishing over the last 3 years.

Come on down to Texas.....

A bunch of us went hunting for hogs and free-range Axis does last weekend.

I had Axis tenderloin for dinner last night.

POP-It's time you dragged your sorry self down this way again too!
