Ideal Elk Rifle

I am sure he will do fine. The 06 is a great cartridge, and by all accounts he shoots it well. The biggest hurdle is finding one. !

Looks like my son is the elk hunter this season, with that very late cow tag. He'll most likely use the good old family .30-06 Model of 1917 with the 6x Leupold. Good combo that he's used on a couple of whitetail bucks and a couple of bears. Believe we'll load it up with 165 gr Nosler Partitions, which it shoots rather well. Mabye 180's, but probably the 165's.

What a great heritage! That ol' battle rifle will acquit itself very well in John's hands.

Used the 300RUM for a few years. This year if I don't get one with my bow, I am going back to an -06. Probably with 180g accubonds;.

I am not going to be shooting over 200 yards this year so I see no reason to hump around a near 12 pound canyon buster.

i love my rem. 700 lh 338 ultra mag. topped with a vx 3 6.5x20x40 with moa turrets. launching 225 abs @ 2985 she flats lays out elk. country will be from the dark timber of the high country to sage flats of the low lands. shot have been from 80 yards to 671 is the longest.
