Then what for the 30-06 with 165 PT? IMR4350 or RL19? This weekend I am going to give H4350 one more try with my father-in-laws 30-06. The best 3 shot group was .968" but there was a touch of bolt lift. I am wondering if it is time to try a new powder. What would you try first?

...I've always had pretty good luck w/ IMR-4350 in the '06, RL-22 is another good choice for the 165's...

Rl19 and IMR4350 should work fine as well. I'd give them a try.

My Buddy has been loading for his 06 for years and he uses IMR4350 I am not sure of the load or what bullet weight he is using.

Blessings,
Dan

Not to sound smart but was wondering if you had giving it a good cleaning to get the copper out of the barrel? I use IMR 4350 in most of my loads and started to look else wheres but noticed copper fouling in the barrel and decided to use some copper cleaner in to see if that would help problem is I haven't been able to get out to shoot it to see if it helped. So I'm a good one to give advise.

Well, the .30-06 has been around for over 100 years, so there are a few powders that have worked out well....

I've had great results from H4350, IMR 4350, H4831, Ramshot Hunter, RL-22... My favorite being H4350, but if it didn't work out, I'd switch to something else in a heartbeat.

I have used nothing but IMR4350 in two 30-06 rifles with 165 gr. Partitions and Accubonds and had great success. 57.4 grs. of IMR4350 - Fed 210 primer - Winchester brass

I've only loaded one bullet and powder for my 30-06 but it was a "hit" out of the gate and subsequent shooting sessions have reinforced that.
All my friends said, "IMR 4350" so for a change I decided to listen to the prevailing wisdom and used that powder instead of searching for something else. I'm glad I did.
Good luck finding a load that shoots to your satisfaction.

Vince

I used IMR4064 on many occasions with a 165 grain bullet in the 06 and had no problems with accuracy and velocity.

The great thing about the 30-06 is that it isn't terribly fussy about powders. The problem is that about any medium burn rate powder will deliver acceptable velocity/accuracy with little tweaking.

I would try, IMR - 4064 or 4895. I always loaded those for the light bullets, and H- 4831 for the heavier ones.

IMR 4350 was always my go to powder. IMR 4064 would also be a good powder to look at.
