I'm Having Trouble Keeping Up

I'm having trouble keeping up with the flood of new powders coming on the market. Reloder 16? http://www.alliantpowder.com/downloads/RL16_Initial_Loads.pdf It does mean that I'll be chasing the opportunity to buy a few pounds so that I can do a few tests. Don't know that it will do that much more than Reloder 15 or BL(C)2 or Varget or... Still, there will be a market, and I'll be one ensuring that there is a market.

I don't even try.

Happy to just latch onto quantities of my old favorites. Snatched up 8 lbs of H4350 not long ago. Hadn't seen an 8 pounder of it in a long time!

There are likely advantages to all these new powders... But, I'm pretty content. My accuracy loads are accurate. The hunting loads go bang and game falls. I'm happy.

I hear that, Guy. At the moment, I'm well supplied with powder. I have an urge to buy more, but truth be told, I'm in good shape.

I'm with Guy. I can't keep up and am happily sitting on a couple pounds of each of my favorite powders. Maybe someday when I have time and money to shoot to my heart's content, I'll finally start buying 8# jugs and get real serious about my powder hoarding.

I feel you!!!! Makes you want to try everything

I stopped trying. The only caliber I'm chasing is the 35 Whelen AI and I think I have just about figured it out for one bullet weight.

I would think that RL16 would be an excellent fit for your 35 Whelen AI, Rodger. One of the challenges I face is the insatiable drive to find an extra 0.05 MOA from just the right powder.

The nice thing about the 8 pounders - is the consistency... For 8 lbs worth of ammo, you're getting the same lot number... NOTHING changes. Until it's time to buy another 8 lbs. Sigh...

That's why you buy 2!!!!

 Waaaaaaaaaahhh Whinge yelp......if only you guys in the US would slow down on buying all the reloading components, we might just get a little more reliabliity & continuity of supply in good old England...Waaaaaaah ...it's very often all dried up here with various bullets, primers, brass & proplellants 'Out of stock'!
Continuity of supply......not a chance here.

I reckon just one of your mainstream 'large' dealerships probably sells more stuff than the entire UK, so we're only a small market with low priority compared to the USA

Our dealers say 'take it or leave it, it's the best it's going to be' ..
Cheers, ET

yeah I'm thinking the same thing DrMike. I thought I had found the perfect powder in CFE223 but it was inconsistent with velocity and temperature sensitive. IMR8208XBR really woke it up. If I can find some RL16 I will give it a try. (y)

There is always the "next best thing" to anticipate, Rodger. The game isn't over until the manufacturers cease providing something "new and improved" or until we quit. I mean, that extra 0.01 MOA is essential! How else can we post those enviable pictures.

ET, I feel your pain. In Canada, we do get some spillage from the neigthbour to the south. (y)

I'll make sure I give that RL16 a try just as soon as I find it for you Mike

I do appreciate the consideration, Scotty. I'll just soak in my envy. Trying the new powders is an addiction, however. I guess I'm not so old that I no longer care.

Yeah, it is pretty fun.

I am liking what I've seen from RL26 so far. I'd bet 16 will be a hit.

Haven't seen any real big streams of data yet but I'm keeping my eyes open.

I seem to be focused on MRP recently. Loaded up three sets of loads for the 8X68 to shoot this week with MRP as propellant and working up a load in the 358 RM using RL17. MRP is just like a new powder to me since we haven't seen it up here in a LOT of years. Because it is bear season, I'm quickly loading up some old reliables to ensure that I have ammunition regardless of which rifle I grab. I do have some loads ready to go with the 358 Norma Magnum built around 250 grain Partitions and H380. Nothing new there.

I'm deep into the new IMR "Enduron" powders - 4166, 4451, etc. I am always lured by "reduced fouling". Definitely lowered copper fouling, but still DIRTY.

During the panic I stocked up on primers. I'm about 20,000 shots from my next order.

I was able to pick up some IMR7828ssc, and with that I believe that I should be able to find a load for my Son's Model 70 in the 270wsm .
I really only need a few different bullets & I should be find for the rest of my shooting career. Need a couple of boxes of 150gr. & 168gr. ABLRs in .284 & then a few for the .277 cal!
Hopefully I will be able to find them shortly (y).

PS. I do know that something will come up or in and I will just have to try it .

Blessings,
Dan

I hear ya Dr. I got my load of 4451 lined up with my .270, after a number of attempts I found 4166 ain't too good with the .220 swift, I can't get enough 7977 in a case to do any good with a 160 AccuBond in the 7mm rem mag, same applies with Reloder 33, ain't enough case for the 7mag, I haven't tried it with a 175 yet. Can't get any velocity with a 150 in my .270 with 7977 so I guess I'm gonna need to try Reloder 26, though I could just stick with 7828ssc. I'm thinking the Reloder 16 might be a good thing for the .220 Swift. I haven't even begun to think about the possibilities of 4451 in the .257 Roberts or .243win. Then I need to work up a .30-06 load with 165 partitions and 115 partitions in the .25-06. But what the heck, its all fun. The only problems is I can't shoot enough to use up all the new powder and I'm running out of room in the refrigerator I keep the powder in.
