improving a laminated stock ???

Does anyone have or know of anyone who has a laminated stock that has been checkered?

I just received a beautiful, classic, nutmeg, laminated, Boyd stock for a Rem Model 7. I like the general design except the forward portion of the forearm could be a little larger or bulky. It is tons better than the splinter tipped tupper ware stock that came on it but it could be improved with a little larger forearm tip . The stock is smooth and slick. It needs checkering or some way to improve gripping it. Gripping it, especially on cold mornings is going to be a challenge. .Any suggestions?? ??? ??

I was thinking checkering may help. Anyone know of one that was checkered and how it turned out? Cost? etc?

Good question. Often thought about the same thing for a boyds I got.

......................................I also have a non-checkered forearm on my laminated Ruger Frontier`s stock. Adding checkering will not bulk up the stock but will better the grip.

FWIW however, I did see but forgot from whom, where you can buy a velcro gizmo which wraps around the barrel and the forearm to make the stock`s forend more grippy and bulkier. Put it on for the hunt, then take it off for storage. It`s kinda like a shell holder you wrap around the stock paddle.

Brownells? Midway? Cheaper Than Dirt? Cabelas? I can`t remember!

Might not look quite as good as checkering, but on a hunt, who would care anyway!! Much cheaper way to go than sending your stock out to get checkered, plus pay the shipping and handling, and on top of that anything else that could go wrong, especially if you weren`t satisfied with the checkering job. And as an added bonus in my view, that wrap around would also protect the forearm against nicks and scratches too.

Which reminds me! When I find it again, I`ll order one.

I prefer the checkering. The laminated stock on my T/C Omega is not checkered and slides through my wool gloves unless I have a good grip on it.
