Anybody else notice this new designation popping up? I'm surprised they are introducing another new powder!

It is listed on the Hodgdon site, but there is nothing on the IMR site. Perhaps another Enduron powder to throw into the mix.

Just saw a release from Mid-South on it.
Supposed to be a fit for the 270, 25 and 30-06 and such.

I thought that's what the IMR 4451 was for?

I would think if it's a slightly slower burn rate than IMR 4451 then it should be outstanding in those calibers with heavier for caliber bullets. Something along the lines of 4831 burn rate.

It is listed at the IMR web site and is described as being between 4451 and 7977. They also have loading data for it in several calibers at the Hodgdon site.

Maybe it's just me. I'm not seeing where I would use this? I know it's sacrilege, but I'm not really a 4831 fan to start with. I would rather see something a step slower than 7977....

It probably is in the works. I'm looking forward to trying 4955 in several cartridges. Right now I just started working with 4451 and 7977 in a 7mm Rem Mag looks good so far. It is neat to see modern versions of old stand by powders, don't think the old ones will disappear any time soon though.
