It's finally underway!

Remington had a model called the LVSF that had a Mag Sporter barrel contour, but fluted. I might be inclined to try that on a synthetic or laminate stocked Whelen...

I'm pretty sure my Whelen Classic is a Standard Sporter contour. I'm not too sure I'd want to go any heavier than that.

Great, Gerry. It sounds as if you're getting everything moving in the right direction.

Well, we need the pre pictures of the Whelen Gerry! Gotta see this sacrificial 270 before it is stripped of its barrel!

Looking forward to it Gerry.. I might be getting out shortly with my Whelen. Wanna try and get it dialed in a little further out since I am pretty much complete with the load work.

Scotty, you have a great gun those CDL's are really nice, our area is too wet and rough for mountain hunting with wood stocks, too bad. Yours is shooting really well, have you tried Varget with those 225's I would be curious to see how well it works in yours. Might be hard to tell in the picture but is that contour similar to your Whelen?

Snapped a few pics for you together with my 264 WM, need to fix my one scope mount on that gun, thats why it only has one Talley ring on it.

I dunno', Gerry. The bolt is backwards! Other than that, those rifles have potential.

Just a quick update to this thread, after talking with Gary who brings in the Benchmark's and using Pac Nor's barrel weight calculator we decided to go with the same contour of a # 4 Pac Nor which will be actually lighter than the # 3 on my 264 WM. With my McMillan Edge stock I will be able to still get into the 7 3/4 +/- lb range scoped and ready to go. Should have the barrel in my hands sometime in May by the sounds of it, I have the gunsmith booked already, he likes to take the summer off but said he would fit it in for me so if everthing goes according to plan it should be done by July sometime.

Man, sounds like you are getting fairly close. Should be three or four Whelen's coming on board by next Fall! Hmmmmmmmm, Mikes campaign has really taken root around here. Lots of Whelens! We might have the highest amount of Whelen shooters per capita of any forum on the net!

Scotty, I do believe you are right about the Whelen and Noslerreloading  The 280, 280 AI, 264 WM and 260 have a pretty good following here as well, just shows how intelligent the guys are around here

Yup. Or we corner the market in crazy. Either way. Lots of fun to be had here!

Always bad mouthing my 277 caliber that is okay cause I like the underdog  But both 277 & 35 whelen are built off the 30-06 which in one opinion made it better :?: one is up and the other is down.
And as for the remarks of gerry's bolts being on the wrong side that is just a visual impairment us south paws are finally able to do some catching up
Yesterday at the local gun shop a group of us old timers had a great talk and it was almost to a man the 35 whelen is the one caliber that can look after everything in North America.
Besides it is old like us
This forum is the best because we have great discussions and have a blast doing it
South paws are just like right handers just a little more advanced

Blessings,
Dan

It is commonly known that lefties are smarter and more phyically attractive than the guys that shoot from the "wrong side"

Looking forward to seeing pics of your gun Dan :)

Commonly known????? To whom?

Scotty once you get a few more grey hairs you will start to understand 8).
Now that lefties have the opportunity to use the same quality equipment it is just a matter of time :p
I think the rest of you are starting to get a little nervous

Blessings,
Dan

Doc, with you having so much knowledge & education I would have thought you would of figured it out

Blessings,
Dan

I guess I better be careful as there is a right hander going to play with my new toy before I get a chance be gentle Doc

Blessings,
Dan

Not to worry, Dan. My hunting partner is a southpaw. I've forgiven him, just as I'll forgive you for being thus handicapped.
