Shoot what shoots small, groups that is! Let that decide for you. 165, 180, or 200, whatever it likes.

Kurt glad you could find something worth shooting at with that .270 barrel on that thing! :p Now once it becomes a .280 Remington or a .280 AI, the magic really begins! OH I am so prejudice, bias, and anything else towards those two. It's a sickness I know.
David

Speaking of which, I know you love your 30-06, but man, you don't need to load your son's 300 like your 30-06 David! When are you going to pump that thing up and let it run?

Forgive me Scotty for him have sinned! I have not loaded any rounds up to test out and need to get off my dead carcass and get it done. No excuses, but I'm beginning to think that 24 hours in a day just isn't enough. :x

Scotty,

I'm not in cahoots with Gene, but he really did a good job with those links. High five, Gene!

I shoot 180s and 200s in my 300 WSM because with a 30-06, 308, and 300 Savage, I have all of my other bases covered.

My father shot 165 Partitions in his 300 WSM for a while but then changed over to the 180 AccuBond for his all around. I find that my rifle loves all the Nosler 180s (mostly the E-tips though) and the 200 grain AccuBond and the Hornady 208 grain Amax all on top of H4350 powder. This is my go to powder in all of my bolt-action rifles and has never given me reason to switch. Im getting 2950 with 63 grains of H4350, Winchester Large Rifle primers, loading them out there at 2.900" in my Model 70 with 24" barrel. Dad uses RL-22 in his 300 WSM. He is getting 3000 with the 180 AccuBond in his Model 70.

I like 180ABs in my .300WSM... everything has fallen within a few feet of where it was shot.

I've played around with 150s but I never really hunt with them. I really think the 180 is THE bullet in the .300.

Scotty my friend have you heard that saying, "Speed is fine, but accuracy is final :!: " I can feel the zing from clear over here my friend, and I don't think I can get there from here that's how far away you are!

I think I may end up with 150s in my .308, just because I'm so .30 caliber heavy...
RUM 200
WinMag 180/200
WSM 180
RSAUM 180
H&H 180/200
'06s 180 (maybe 165/168 mono)
.308 150
Savage 165/150
.30-30 170

I picked up a box of Hornady 190 BTSP and loaded over top of H-100V. This powder has been the most accurate in my 243 and the book shows good vel for 300WSM. So I'm going to break in the barrel with a med/light load with these components. Hopefully it gets here this week and I can shoot after work.

I'm just trying something different then my sons 300 and 180 PT.

If I ever get another .308, I'll go with 150ABs as fast as I can push them accurately...and never look back.

I've got a load for my .300 with the 150AB....3300 and change and right about MOA. I might try it this year but the 180 load is so consistent I hate to mess with a good thing. I put these together for a sheep hunt last year and never got a shot.

I probably don't even need to post. I have been shooting and killing elk with the 180 PT for 50 years, for one reason they work. If I was going to start over, as Mike says, I would certainly look hard at the 200. There were no AB's when I started but many whom I trust also say they are a great bullet. Either of those are a great choice, shoot which ever one gives you 2" or less groups.
