Got out to the range yesterday and tested my first Varget loads. Fired 41 and 42 gr Varget under Nos 155 BTHP with Fed 210 match and WLR primers. Only one of my targets survived the wet conditions, I'll try to post a pic. It was amazing. Fed pr loads showed vertical stringing across 1.5 MOA. The WLR loads shot tidy clusters. With the 42 gr load, I got 2 shots touching at 1 oclock, 3 near the xring with a corrected aimpoint. If you superimpose the groups to one aiming point it's a 5 shot dime sized group with an as issued rifle with issue iron sights at 100 yards! No pressure signs, chrono didn't work yesterday but judging by POI it's in the 2400 fps range comparing with my 2500 fps standard match load.

Those guns are sweet! I bought one years ago for $110.
I tried faster powders but got too high a point of impact. I didn't want to look for a higher front sight.
My best load now uses re19 and 150 for decent velocity and dead on impact.
I just wish it were a little lighter, more compact, and a different safety or I'd be hunting it here in Wis for deer season.

You should make it over to an as-issued match in Harris MN this summer. Your K-31 would be right at home. Really razzes the Springfield guys when they get beaten by a "furren" rifle. I'll post a link to the schedule. They really are sweet rifles. Everybody should buy one while they are still cheap and plentiful. I've never seen one that doesn't shoot at least 1.5 MOA with iron sights and quality handloads.

They run 2 matches on a couple of the dates so it would be worth the drive.

I don't know Polaris...looks like it would be really tough to get past you in one of those matches! Got to admit I take my Swiss
To the annual deer hunter pre season "sight in" with my buddies. They've gone from 'is that old thing safe to shoot" to "wow".
Mine had a name under the butt plate..did yours? Always thought that was a cool thing.

Mine has a name and address. The name sounds like he was from the french speaking part of Switz. Some folks have written their previous owners and gotten responses. There are threads on it on several of the swiss rifle forums out there. Come to a match. They're a lot of fun (and addictive). You don't have to go for first place. We've got a couple of nationally ranked HP shooters that show up. It's great practice for practical field shooting and a nice chance to meet some other shooters interested in classic mil rifles and see some neat old guns. Besides, my offhand needs a lot of practice. I drop a lot of points in that stage.

I have 3 K-31s and they all shoot great. My match load is the Accuracy load from the Sierra manual.
45.0 grs IMR 4064, Graf/Prvi case, Fed. 210M primer, 155gr Nosler custom competition OAL 2.880 and I use a Lee Factory Crimp Die on it because it makes it more accurate. My main match rifle will keep 10 shots in the X ring of that same style target at 100 yards off the bench. About 10 years ago at a range that I am no longer a member at we started what we call old men's military rifle matches. We shot off a bench at 100 yards for score. Some people quit coming because I kept winning. Those were the up tight bench rest shooters that were used to shooting little bitty groups bought with many $$$ of equipment. I would rub it in and tell them anybody can shoot little bitty groups with one of those precision machines but it takes a man to shoot open sights and a military trigger and get little bitty groups. LOL
