A while back (October 2010) I was late for work. As you can see from the date on the camera, I wasted no time taking the reason for my tardiness to the range with me.

Armed with my trusty Savage 99E in 308 WCF I carefully loaded 5 rounds of 150 grain Speer Hot-Cor handloads I personally tailored for the gun. At 50 yards away the time clock of yore hung by its cord to a juniper branch and began to sway from a small push given by my cameraman.

I took aim and began firing off my weapon. I fired and fired until the magazine was clear and discovered that all 5 rounds hit the intended target now disembowled but still hanging in the tree, I also discovered there is more than one way to kill time at the range...

There's nothing worse than having an excuse like, "My alarm didn't go off," when you are late to work. Stupid alarm clock wont ever be the reason I am late to work again!

For sure, that is a great way to "kill time." Some fine shooting.

Awesome choice of rifles for slaying alarm clocks! Love that Savage! Scotty

Yeah the radio clock had been with me since I was a little boy but it was high time to modernize. I still think waking up to music is a lot more peaceful awakening that an annoying alarm claxon of any kind. Yeah this old Savage and I have made a good team on elk, coyotes, a few Russian hogs, and though I have carried it for mule deer, I have yet to shoot at one with it.

This is likely going to be my deer rifle again this year. It points like a shotgun and though its trigger pull is the stuff Freddy Krueger haunts us at night with, it is surprisingly perfect for standing supported or free hand shooting.

With all the talk of the 125 BT's on deer I may have to see how those shoot in this old rifle; the 150 grain BT's and Speer Hot-Cores shoot amazingly. Also the 165 grain PT's and 180 grain Remington Core-Lokts whether factory or handloaded shoot quite well in this rifle.

This is the biggest gun my Dad owned for nearly 20 years, I would like to know the number of critters it has slain.
