Kimber 84 35 Whelen

Pretty cool.

The 35 Whelen and 280 AI would make for an excellent 2 gun battery for all of NA.

Great cartridge. I guess I'm not surprised they are making the move. It has a lot of appeal to a wide variety of hunters.

I just jumped over and read that thread . That would be one awesome little gun. I was surprised how many comments there was on there about recoil from the 35W as either I must have the softest shooting one ever made or men have started to eat keesh..........

I saw that. In fact, mine was the fifth post in the thread. Damn Kimber! I was hoping to get a little money saved, but with all these cool rifles companies are introducing, I'm having a hard time!

Just kidding. Choices are good.

The original poster has reported it will be a heavier barrel .64" and a 1 in 14 twist. If it came in a left hand version I would likey buy one.

Now I'm really going to have to count my pennies and watch for this one...I could seriously almost do all my hunting with a Whelen.

Especially a nice light one.

And Shawn has 5 of them in the M48 just waiting on the shipping info.... why does my wallet hurt all of a sudden?

Wait on the Kimber? which will be vapor-ware for a good long while...or tag into another M48?

Must study this some more.

The Nosler 48 will likely be very accurate, Kimber has the reputation of being hit and miss in quality. I have a pm into Shawn asking if they will chamber the TGR in left hand since the Custom is too rich for my blood right now, he hasn't got back to me on that yet though.

Having observed Kimber customer service on numerous occasions, I can say with a fair amount of conviction that even should they produce a superb rifle in this iteration, I would avoid it simply because of the poor reputation they have earned with people in this area.

it does appear that only the Classic will be offered, no Montana. I don't know if that's a deal-breaker for me or not.

That is so true. Probably part of the reason I like the M700 CDL so much. Pretty light and a great shooter. Makes for a easily likable combo.

I am not sure how I forgot to say how excited I was that Kimber is doing the Whelen. I hope they are good ones and issue free. They make very nice rifles and when they shoot well, they seem like the slimmed down M70. It doesn't help my urge to build a Whelen on a M70 at all though... Scotty

A Model 70 chambered in 35 Whelen would be a great find. Maybe I'll shortly show you a 9.3X64 Brenneke chambering in a Model 70.

OK Mike, outside of 2mm  , what's the difference between the x64 Brenneke and the x62 Mauser? Because I'd love to own an M70 in 9.3x62.

Much as I like the 9.3X62 Mauser, the Brenneke has a certain je ne sais quoi. It has a bit more punch in terms of velocity and/or energy. With a 286 grain Partition, the Brenneke generates roughly 200 fps higher velocity.

About 6 yeras ago I was cruising a gun show and this fellow had a Pre-64 M70 on his table with a $10,000 price tag on it. When I asked about it, he said it was a factory issue in .35 Whelen.  I took a real close look and it was properly stamped and all strictly factory. I've always wondered if fit was the only one, probably from their custom shop. IIRC, it was very minty and looked unfired. I wasn't interested in the cartridge back then but I do believe if I'd had the money I'd have bought it anyway. Ayway, I know for sure that there was at last one M70 made from the factory in .35 Whelen.
