So Dad came down yeterday and the plan was made to get out today and see if we can track down an elk. The weather had done a 180 from last week and we hit near 0 C temps. The morning started off a bit shakey as we got to the field I had kinda been keeping an eye on but haven't had time since last Friday to check in on the elk. Well sometime since last Friday the farmer had plowed out and hauled out all the feed the elk had been hitting. I felt that kinda let down when I seem all the bales gone as I figured the activity would have pushed them out. Well plan B was to head into a gas lease over looking a valley on some crown land, and just see if we could see where they were coming and going from. This was about a 1/2 mile North of where they had been hitting the feed.
Well sometimes things happen quick as we got into the lease a small band of elk popped out 200 yrds from us, I shouted for dad to get out . I figured they would turn and head down the valley to the thick bush but alas they turned to run behind us and over to the next bluff of trees. Big mistake for one ol girl as Dad let his old Mauser bark and sent a 175 gr TBBC on its way. The bullet found its mark she made it about 40 yrds and piled up. Hunt over!
Except for the hard work lol.

S-7, that is excellent more Elk for the freezer. Sure glad that your Dad was able to connect. If you have a photo or two that would be great!!!

Blessings,
Dan

Only pic I took was when I was walking up to her. I was elbow deep soon after so camera / phone was soon forgotten about. I got elk on the brain and it makes it tough to sleep at night. LolImageUploadedByTapatalk1421307118.843882.jpg

Congratulations to your father! Nice looking cow there. Man she should be great eating. Elk meat is one of my favorites for sure.

Again, your dad did a grand job on that lady elk. I understand the malady of elk on the brain.

That is a great looking Elk and being with your Dad just makes it a little more special!!!
Thanks for the photo.

Blessings,
Dan

Well a pretty steep 1/4 away you can see the entry there in the pic. Dressing was messy but my buddy's shop with walk in cooler is also set up for a quick rinse . Not ideal an the ol girl still went 40-50 yrds .
