Lightweight rifles

Wow, those are some beautiful rifles. I have 0 rifles that would even come close to those rifles. My lightest is probably my M700 CDL 35 Whelen. I wanna say it sits in the 7.5LB mark all loaded up. Great shooting rifle and about as light as I'd wanna go with a Whelen.

G'Day Fella's,

Thank you for posting those images of your lightweight rifles!
Donuts!!!

Here are a couple more of a mate/customers (J.Jongmans, in .284Win @ 2.9Kgs) and an old "BSA Royal Featherweight" of mine (.243Win @ 2.77Kgs).

J.Jongmans was a small scale Australian rifle making business that made these full diameter, bolt action rifles and for a while the De Hass-Miller falling block, single shot rifle as well!
This particular rifle, also has an Australian made Corporal Trading, fiberglass stock, and the most heavily fluted rifle barrel (By Tobler & 22"long), I have ever seen on a sporting rifle!!!

The 1950's-60's era BSA Royal Featherweight, was given to me by another mate for helping him out with a few firearms from a deceased estate.
This is an intact example of what may have been, one of the very first factory made Featherweight rifles, that really were light weights at around 6 pounds as is?
Unfortunately, this rifle was in Neglected Condition when I took possession of it, with the exterior and bore were covered in fine rust.
It still shoots about 1 1/2" to 2" groups but I would like to rebarrel it to 7x57 Mauser, as this rifle has a very long magazine for a short action and has room to spare for the 7x57!

Doh!

A couple of very interesting rifles, Home. The old BSA is chambered in a superb cartridge that is woefully neglected today.

G'Day Fella's,

Dr Mike, can't argue with that!
I often refer to the 7 x 57 as the Original .308Win cartridge, as it was doing what the .308 does, a life time before it!!!

With this short /medium action BSA rifle, I can place a Winchester factory 175grn R/nose cartridge in the magazine, and still have 1/8"-3mm of spare room in the magazine.
So given this, it would be remiss of me not to do something about this, by rebarreling it to the mighty 7x57!

Doh!

I love my boys 7mm Mauser. I love it so much, I would like to have one of my own. Easy on the shoulder and high on performance. Loaded to modern spec's, it really does get alot of work done.

I like the7x57. I have three; a Ruger #1A, Winchester M70 Featherweight and one built on a J.C. Higgin FN maauser with Winchester Featheweight style stock and 23" barrel. What's not to like?

Nothing at all! With the right bullet combo, it could make one awesome mountain rifle.

Very nice rifles! Mine are a G1 Remington Ti 30-06 and a Ti Alaskan in 300 WM. A pleasure to carry, but requireextra effort to shoot consistant. Both are waiting on McMillan Edge stocks.

For a light accurate rifle I like my M48 TGR

G'Day Fella's,

Sorry been a bit busy of late and haven't made comment, on the great looking rifles posted by others on this thread!
Niiiiice!!!

These days we have so many great factory options for lightweight rifles, like the NULA, Cooper Arms, and of coarse the Kimber Montana and Mtn Assent and others!
If these rifles were available 20-30 years ago, there wouldn't be so many Remchesters in my safe and the local gunsmiths would be doing it a bit harder!!!

Doh!

I think Dr. Mike was referring to the 284 as a "woefully neglected" cartridge. IMHO, the 7 x 57 has an ideal audience even w/the hundred or so different cartridges today. Plus it spawned the 257 Bob and 6mm Rem.

But I could be wrong.

I always find the near extinction of certain cartridges interesting. Especially those that spawned very popular offspring. The two examples that spring to mind are: 1) 250 Savage to the 22-250 Rem and 2) 284 Win to the 6.5 x 284 Norma

Me too, Scotty. But every rifle in this thread is outstanding. Everyone of you guys have something or somethings to be proud of.
