Fellows, I haven't been on this site for quite some time. I found the african forum, and decided to share some pics of my 1st african safari, taken in July 2008. I went with my son, and my best friend and his son. I'm not going to try to rewrite the entire hunt, but thought I would post a bunch of pics from that memorable hunt.
Three of the four of us used nosler bullets on the trip. I was the only one who handloaded.
Three of the guns taken on the trip were "unusual", by african standards. I used my .45-70 guide gun, and 300 gr. nosler handloads, for the trip. They were absolutely devastating. My son took a NEF handi rifle, in 30-06, and used Federal factory ammo loaded with 180 gr. nosler partitions. My buddy took a Marlin .308 MX, XLR levergun, and used Hornady LE ammo. His son took the only "normal" gun, a Ruger mod. 77, .338 mag and factory loads using accubonds. Below are a bunch of pics. Hope you enjoy them.
my impala. 50 yds. 1 shot
my zebra. didn't hit it right, with the 1st shot. Then it was a fire fight, in the bush for 1 1/2 hrs., to put it on the ground.
blesbok. 60 yds.
gemsbok. 75 yds. The fellow in the pic is my ph, Craig.
kudu. 65 yds.
blue wildebeast. 1 shot 90 yds.
my wartie. Hunting warties is a hoot!
Next are my son's trophies with the handi rifle.
red hartebeast.
blue wildebeast, with Ricco the wonder dog.
Here is a couple of pics of my buddy Doc, with the Marlin .308 MX, including a "toad" of a warthog.
a pic of our heads, excluding the zebra hides. We took 30 head of plains game, in 10 days of hunting.
a pic of the only 300 gr. noslers that I have ever recovered from ANY game. 1 from the kudu, and 3 from the fire fight with the zebra. They are tough!
