Well, my dad enlisted me to get my little brother's a rifle for Christmas. Long story, short, I found a Serie I Vanguard at a local store for a touch over 300.00.. It was chambered in the 257 Wby. It also has one of THE best trigger's I have felt on any rifle, let alone a Vanguard.

We broke it in with Norma 100 grain Factory ammo.. It is a very accurate rifle from all I can tell. I got to fire 4 shots out of the rifle, with a couple of my handloads, but all the rest of the firing was from my twin brothers.

First brother, Jacob..

He shot the first one, then shot the next on another bull, when I got him back to the correct target, he put the other right next to the 1st. His 2nd group was real good as well..

This is Justin's first run. Not too bad for a new rifle..

Just did the same as Jake (TWINS), and shot two and decided to use another bull..

Then, we had a shoot off with the last 4 rounds of factory ammo.. Whoever was closer to the bull, wins..

Well, I called it a tie..

We went home and loaded up some test loads, using RL25 (Nosler's most accurate powder).. I loaded 68-71, CCI250's, Norma cases and 120 PT's.

Jake shot the first 4..

Justin shot the next 4..

Here are some range pictures.

We went back to the house and I sent them back home with 35 rounds of 120 PT's, 70 grains of RL25, CCI250's and Norma brass. Along with the recipe for my cousin to load for them, if they run low. Can't say enough good about that rifle. It was cheap, I got lucky as the trigger is out of this world good for a Vanguard or any other rifle..

Looking good Scotty. Looks like little brother Jake out shot you.
The Vanguards are nice entry level rifles and a lot of gun for the money. The triggers on the S1 were hit and miss and it sounds like you got one that was a hit.
Oh and one of them is shooting from the wrong side of the rifle.

I'd say that Jake has the magic touch with that rifle. Justin is no slouch. Either are doing very well; with trigger time, they will be deadly with that rifle. Good gift for the boys. Good to see them loading, as well.

Nice going Scotty! ..great shooting from the boys too!..I had a weatherby vanguard in .338 win mag, and it was very accurate as well.

Those Vanguards / Howa 1500 just SHOOT... I've had a couple over the years and can see myself getting another, the 257 Weatherby sounds like a good one to get!!

...ya done good, Scotty, but don't forget the light bullets. A lot less expensive & more fun to shoot. If they don't hit the same POA, it's just a lesson in practical applied ballistics...

Nice shooting Scotty! those boys are putting them in kinda tight and that rifle really liked those ones you rolled !! No RL 22 ? The RL 25 did not do too bad and Jacob had a tight group for, sure! Nice ya got a good trigger as my SMOA vanguard has a good 1 as well and I have a Timney in the safe waiting to change it but it's too good to change  those youngsters will be terrors with a tight 257 group  critters better be running for the hills!

Scotty,

Nice work buddy.
That one is a keeper for sure.

Nicely done Scotty.
Once again, great cartridge choice. They are flat fun to shoot.
That load is zooming pretty well too. Should be bang, flop for them.
Great way to spend some holiday time.
Dewey

Well done Scott. Those boys look good, and the rifle looks right omn the button and the price was right. CL

So velocities?

It's a .257 Weatherby for goodness sake.

Buckle your seatbelt and fasten your helmet. She's a scorching!

Scotty
Great range day you all had, I have always had a dream of owning one of those 257 Weatherby's.

Awesome cartridge should flatten Whitetails too!!

Couldn't set the chrono up Fotis for this session.. I imagine it's probably fast enough.... Like Guy says, it is a 257 Wby, with 71 grains of RL25.. It's gotta be moving! It was a very pleasant rifle to shoot though. Very nice setup.

Guy, FYI, Bill sent me an older Redfied 2x7 to put on it for them. Worked like a charm and a very serviceable scope as well. Should do them well, till they decide they need to upgrade.

Thank you for all the comments fella's. It was great to see them shooting and loading. Pretty sure I got inside their head a little!
