Getting my gun back soon from the gunsmith and want to work up some loads with 150G Partitions and Accubonds. I've got some for 130 and 140 g but haven't tried 150G yet. I have a pretty good assortment of powders and primers so any recommendations would be appreciated.

H-1000 has been a go to powder for me with the 6.5 PRC, 6.5 WSM, 6.5 SAUM, 7 WSM, and 7mm SAUM.
I imagine it will work good for the 270 WSM.

Cartridge : .270 WSM
Bullet : .277, 150, Nosler PART SP 16323
Useable Case Capaci: 72.180 grain H2O = 4.687 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 2.860 inch = 72.64 mm
Barrel Length : 26.0 inch = 660.4 mm

Predicted Data for Indicated Charges of the Following Powders.
Matching Maximum Pressure: 63817 psi, or 440 MPa
or a maximum loading ratio or filling of 115 %
These calculations refer to your specified settings in QuickLOAD 'Cartridge Dimensions' window.
C A U T I O N : any load listed can result in a powder charge that falls below minimum suggested
loads or exceeds maximum suggested loads as presented in current handloading manuals. Understand
that all of the listed powders can be unsuitable for the given combination of cartridge, bullet
and gun. Actual load order can vary, depending upon lot-to-lot powder and component variations.

I sent you a PM, but anything from RL17 on up to Retumbo will work. Not sure what you have on the shelf, but it isn't very finicky and speed came pretty quick with anything 22 or slower.

You shouldn’t have trouble finding a suitable powder for your load. The first 23 powders on Jim’s Quickload are only separated by 96 fps. Man that’s impressive in and of itself.

Ok , I have a Browning AB3 270 wsm, I loaded some 150 gn nosler pn at factory specs & my bolt wont close, I ran into this same problem with my 6.5 creedmore with a 140 grn Partition, is there somthing maybe about the ogive of the nosler Partition? all the other nosler bullets work fine

if you have a resized brass case , that's not loaded, try to chamber it . it could be a case resizing issue .

I have done that, I really believe its the Partition bullet, cause its happened in my Browning AB3 270 WSM & my Ruger Predator 6.5 Creed, in the 6.5 I seated it to book specs & you can chamber it but it shoves the bullet back a few thousands so theres no room for jump at all, I even had the bullet stick in the barrel, yet it loads the 142 grain ACLR just fine, you can visually see the difference in the ogive of the 2, maybe a lighter grain Partition? I dont know, even thought about trying a factory round but I dont wanna waste the money because I know the results will be the same, guess im just blessed with 2 rifles that wont shoot the heavier grain partitions.

ok , I got ya now . you were a step ahead of me .

yes , the Partition definitely has a different profile from the ABLR . my nosler book shows the , maximum saami cartridge length is 2.860" for the 270 WSM . if you are loading to this length or shorter and having this problem I suggest you find the lands with the Partition bullet and load them with a jump of .010" , to start . my experience with the partitions is they like to be close to the lands . if you do not know how to find the lands let me know , I'll walk you through the process . or you could buy the Hornady tool and modified brass case for use with the tool ,https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1012747079?pid=570611 , I don't see a modified case for the 270 WSM . Hornady used to make a case for ones not mass produced . . you can buy a tap and drill from amazon and make it yourself , if you wanted to go this route . I have the tool , tap , drill bit , and I've made a few cases , but I'd rather just find the lands without using the tool .

going to a lighter weight Partition will not solve the problem . the profiles will be the same . loaded to the same COAL lengths will only put less bullet in the brass case on the lighter weight bullet . what's sticking out will be exactly the same .

there is nothing wrong with these rifles . you just have to find the lands , and load to that spec , or shorter . the bullet jump to the lands is a very important tunning tool for dialing in your load . be happy you can reach the lands , and that length fits the magazine box .

if I can help , let me know .

I have the hornady lock n load OAL tool & that was my next step, although I'm gonna have to make my own modified case for the 270 wsn, I did use
it with the 6.5 creed & honestly I dont remeber the results, so would have to do it again, So I guess my next question is, if the oal turns out to be shorter the sami specs, will I be creating some pressure problems, I have only been handloading going on 4 years now, so anything you guys can tell me would be greatly appreciated Thanks

Retumbo, Retumbo or Retumbo whichever you have.

@Kib you answered your own question. The bullet had a different profile and just needs to be seated to work. Recommended COL's in manuals are just that, recommendations. You may have to seat certain bullets longer or shorter depending on your gun. There is nothing "wrong" with the Partition. I've loaded and hunted with many different weights and calibers and they've always been fantastic.

ok , Great you have the tool . Hornady used an oddball thread on the tool . it's 5/16 x 32 . I doubt you'll find it in a local hardware store , I couldn't . I bought mine from amazon , along with the matching drill bit . use a fired case that has " NOT" been resized to make your case for the tool . the bullet needs to slide in and out of the case easily . a resized , or new case , will have too tight of a neck .

if you are testing different bullets you will need to use the tool on every style bullet . I write the COAL to touch the lands down in a book , also on the box of bullets lid .

yes , a shorter COAL will increase pressure . it will have to be a drastic change in length , to get the pressures way high , so don't be alarmed . so first you will want to find the COAL length to touch the lands , and shorten it up about .010" . then start at the minimum book powder charge and work your load up , while watching for pressure signs . if you shot any of the ammo that you forced into the rifle , the pressure will be higher on that ammo , than what a little shorter COAL will make . this is the reason for the reloading rule ; start low and work up while watching for pressure .

if I can help let me know

Thank you folks, you have been awesome help!! anxious to get started, gotta get my modified case made for the 270 WSM before I can do anything, will let you know how this turns out, thats if I dont run into some more head scratchers

I sold my 270 wsm a several years ago.

Jim, are you saying Hornady never made a modified case for the 270 wsm? I thought I had one and I'll look when I get home, unless they never have made one for that caliber.

I took a quick look trying to help @Kib , but I didn't see one listed . this surprises me , for as popular as the WSM's are . if someone finds one post a link and help him out .

I'm sure I had one when I was reloading for my 270wsm, but when I sold my rifle I included the reloading dies, must have included that as well.
