I have been working with my nephews M700 XCR 338 RUM and trying to get it to shoot. I have really struggled with accuracy which is uncommon in any 700 I have ever worked with.

Well, I think I discovered the problem. The rings are not tight enough and are moving under recoil!

I'll keep you posted with future results.

Emery cloth baby! Rough end against the rings. If it will stabilize 378 and 416 bees...it will do anything.

I've heard of people using various types of powdered resin, as well.

I know this sounds naive but have you lapped the rings. I was amazed at the grip afterword. I'm older than dirt so I don't amaze easily but I've spent my life dealing with recoil problems. Maybe if I didn't try and shoot the most powerfull calibers there wouldn't be a problem but anything with RUM after the caliber usually raises concern.
Good Luck!! As far as accuracy, you know what a 700 can and will do.
Good Hunting

As much as I like leupold rings, I also like the burris signature rings with the posi-lock inserts. You can get them with MOA built in to them or just use them as they come with 0 MOA. They tighten down good and will not mar the scope. That is what I recommend.

Thanks fellas. I have never had one problem with this type of ring/mount set up, even on my 338 RUM.
Shame on me for not double checking the mounts and rings on my nephews rifle. I have everything all set now and back out to the range next weekend. We will see what this lil' puppy will do now.
