Looking at adding one maybe?
How do you folks that use them feel they compare to others?
I'd be grateful for your opinions.

I have the v3 version and love it. Strapping it on the barrel changes the POI but I haven't noticed a significant difference in the grouping of shots.
I can't see myself without using a chrony of some sort and the V3 fits the bill nicely.

When working up a load, I will normally use it to run the 3 most accurate loads to get the dope.

Basically, my method is:
1. load several loaded rounds at given powder increments (.3 gr/.5 gr or 1. gr depending)
2. Find the three most accurate loads
3. Find if one or all, are repeatable
4. Verify velocity and SD/ES for that load and the one's on either side of it.

Load up a batch and go shoot.

Mine works great, have only had one load where I had to even adjust the sensitivity. Chronos aren't allowed at most of the ranges here so it is the only option.

Not a good choice for semi automatic handguns, though.

Interesting topic. Calling for a cease fire to set up my chrony at the range can be a pain in the buttox for everyone. We have 1600 members that want to shoot and not wait for some of us to set up the chrony. I can see the magnetspeed as a real nice option. (y)

I have the Sporter...

It is 1,000 times better and more reliable than an optical chrono...Over the years, I've wasted enough bullets and powder trying to get accurate readings to buy at least 25 MagnetoSpeed Sporters.

After playing with various chronographs that belonged to friends, for rifle only as I'm not much interested in handgun data beyond how it groups, I went with a Magneto Speed and haven't looked back.

I'm very happy with my choice.

The v3 is a huge improvement over the v2.

I have v2. I'll post some pics if you want proof, but they can change group size and poi. I don't judge any groups when I use it. I have shot the bayonet two or three times. It didn't damage anything but sent the bullet a few feet higher at 100 yards.

Haven't tried/seen the labradar yet, but magneto is plain awesome.

Reads accurate every shot and super easy to setup and use, just learn to deal with the POI shifts when working up loads. I will shoot a new load to check speeds, then when done developing load will verify fps and es again.

Thanks all!
Guess I better pick one up. Thought that was what would happen but wanted some confirmation.
I have a bad habit of shooting optical chronos.

I have the Sporter. It gives easy to read numbers in ft/sec and tracks something around the last 12 shots. There are several sensitivity levels for it. I've left mine at the factory setting and been nothing short of totally happy with it. Windy, cloudy or bright sunny days don't effect the sensing. You ought to check the strap tension after every shot, maybe every other shot, to the sensing arm (called the bayonet) doesn't get loose and flop as the bullet goes over. I didn't check the straps once when firing my 300 Weatherby and a shot scrapped the edge of the bayonet just a tiny bit. It has no effect on the sensing ability of the unit.

As for how it compares with standard, light-based chronographs, this is a far superior system due to no weather limitations and easy of set up. It has never missed a shot due to atmospherics or a shot not over the sensors.

The systems only drawback could be a limit on how close you can mount the bayonet to the muzzle. So far my rifle barrels have easily accepted the mounting unit and every shot (except one with the 300 Weatherby) has cleared easily. The V3 unit comes with more adapters than the Sporter. So far, all has been well. Get one and never look back on use or accurate readings.

Can it be used with lever guns with tubular magazines that extend to the end of the barrel?

Like this????

I believe so.... It would need to be mounted upside down (bayo on top)... The directions say such mounting is perfectly fine.

Mr. Fotis, Are you still waiting on the Labradar??

I know the V3's were designed with a lot of input from the silencer community to have increased sensitivity while shooting with a can on the end. Witnessed the folks from TBAC use a V3 on a 6.5 Creed build w/can and we had to set the sensitivity to max for it to read.

Jeff. I cancelled my order. I am trying something new this month. Will report findings

Makes me wonder what Fotis went with.
I'll start checking the classifieds. :)
