Ok I'm going to order a stock for my rem 700 varmint from Richards Stocks and I need help deciding. I can't choose between the target thumbhole pictured first or the wildcat thumbhole pictured second. I love the way the lines flow on the wildcat, but the target would be heavy and steady. Also I'm looking at the blue, red, or yellow laminate. What would you choose?

I just bought two stock from Richards to dress up my two Argie Mauser. I ordered the Target Silhouette style Thumbhole in black and grey for my 6MM and a Target Bench style Thumbhole for my 280 in Psychedelic Laminate with black ebony forend and grip cap. This will compliment my 6.5-284 Thumbhole.

Blue or red. Yellow is hideous. If you're not going to carry it around a lot, I'd go with a heavier stock. or match the stock to the barrel for a nice balance.

I don't care for the wildcat, but if you like it, go for it. I also tend not to do "flashy" stocks, but the blue is cool looking. I like the new camo stocks, in black/brown/green. For years I've wanted a green/black laminate, and I've seen them on other rifles, but I can't find a place to buy one. To me, dark green and black laminate is a great look for a lot of forest hunting situations.

Anyway, good luck on the choice. I think the advice you got from widgeon on matching the barrel/rifle to the stock is excellent.

DesertFox, I don't want to hijack the thread, so perhaps you could start a new one, but I'm wondering if you could outline the process you used to finish your stock. The satin look of that laminate on what I guess is your 6.5-284 is a great look. I might want to duplicate that sometime.

I was gonna get a less flashy stock, but this is a purpose built rifle for varmints only so it doesn't need to be camo. I'm leaning towards the wildcat in blue or red.

You guys that have a richards stocks how do you like them? Pros cons?
