Here are some pictures of the buck I shot this morning. I took him from a treestand. Actually didn't get up till 0530 this morning, so by the time I showered, had coffee, and got out the door is was 0600. The traffic was horrible (DC I95 N Morning rush hour) so I got into my stand about 0650. The first little buck came in at about 0700. I did some yearling grunts and bleats but he wasn't having much to do with me. 5 minutes later, the buck I shot came in to check stuff out. He was 18 yards from the base of my tree. They are running pretty hard up in this area right now. It was a great morning to shoot a deer. I love the Marine Corps Birthday! Best day of the year and this made it that much better.

Standing at the tree, facing the direction I shot the deer. The bigger tree was about where he was. 18 yards from my tree

If you look in the center of the picture, you will see he is down. Went about 30 yards from where he was shot, maybe less

This picture doesn't show it, but it looks like he was murdered with an ax. There was so much blood

I have NEVER been anykind of fan of expandable broadheads in the past, but due to some crappy Muzzy's I bought and some kinda iffy performance (slight bloodtrails), I decided to try the 2 blade rage. I gotta tell ya, for deer, they work GREAT. They cut large holes, with a cut on contact point, kinda like an old Fred Bear Razorhead or Zwickey and seem to work as advertised. All of my hunting partners use them and I was the last hold out. I am sold on them. Anyhow, Figured you all would want to see the pictures. I am shooting a Bear ATTACK 70lbs (323 chronoed), Bass Pro Carbon Fury 65-80 shafts, Rage 2 blade 100gr, Whisker Biscuit Rest and Tru Fire Release.

Sorry about not having any rifle hunt pictures, but it doesn't start till Saturday in these parts. Scotty

Congrats on your buck. Enjoy your weather and we are getting another storm with 10 to 14" of snow today.
Oh well that living here in the great white north.

Blessings,
Dan

Congratulations on the deer and Happy Birthday Jarhead. Outstanding shot.

Thanks fellers. Best buck with a bow thus far, but I figure I have 70 years left to hunt, so hopefully it is not my last big one!

Also, thanks for the Happy Birthday! I am having a beer celebrating 235 tonight. Scotty

Scotty,
Semper Fi and Happy Birthday!! Some dates are just branded into my memory blank, and that's one for sure. I send something to my daughter every year. OAMAAM goes for her in spades.

And the deer, great pics. I think if they made spears legal you'd be posting those pictures before long!!

I am kind of an omni-hunter. I will pretty much hunt with anything if it is legal and I can shoot it. Just my nature I guess!

Happy Birthday to you to Elkeater, is your daughter a Marine? Scotty

Scotty -
Congrats on both the buck & b-day !
That is a smoking arrow speed - The expandables definatly let one shoot faster speeds without flight issues.

You said it like Chuck - looks like you threw an axe through him.
I have my little guy in a JOAD archery program now and he shoots every weekend. Sure making me want to buy a new bow now....

Great little hunting area you have there. Nice shooting and a nice little deer. Congrats.

Corey

Gongratulations on the buck, I liked the part where you didn't get up "until" 5:30 its nice to sleep in like that. Great buck and beautiful pictures. Looked like a very nice day on the east coast.

Scotty,

Nice buck! Congratulations. That Rage broadhead makes one big hole!

Jim, I just typed out a huge response in regards to Mark (Powerstroke) over my woes with the Muzzy this year and the poor QC on them, and then the site crapped out on me. Either way, short story for you all, I had two packs of heads that looked like a blind machinist put together. They still flew well, but they weren't SHARP, and just didn't seem like the old school Muzzys that always kicked butt.

I tryed the Rage and man, I think I am on to something. I was not ever an expandable believer, but these are turning me. It is hard to deny how well a 2 blade cut on contact penetrates and those holes tell a great story. I say give them a try. I don't think there is anything better right now. Having that gaping blade helps really drain them out!

Bill, it was a GREAT day today. Stars and Moon were aligned today.

Yote, it was a good shot, I am very happy for that, but I am happier for the short blood trail and quick end to the buck.

Corey, it is a great place to hunt WT's at. The deer are thick in Northern Va, so it makes hunting pretty exciting. You are pretty much limitless in the amount of deer you can tag. Scotty

Mark, that is awesome about your boy. My wife, son and daughter have bows and like to shoot. Not as much as me, but then I am a little nuts like you all! Glad your little one is liking it. It is nice when they take to things without having to prompt too awfully much! Scotty
