Took a look at one this afternoon. Of course a Remlin...what a let down. Wood to metal fit was horrid! Left barrel channel was stuck up against the barrel. Right barrel channel same thing with a 2" long gap in the middle of about 1/8".

Action was......ok I guess. Huge uneven gaps between butt stock and metal. Gorgeous rifle but for 989.99? Hell no!!!

Yeah, I feel pretty blessed I got my old 1895G back in 2008 or so at the PX for 450 or so. It's a blaster and really gets better every year.

The Marlin 1895 that I just bought from Wal-Mart for $299 on closeout ($50 rebate on top of that) is on par with my old JM Marlins in terms of fit and finish. The action is smoother out of the box. I haven't taken it to the range yet. If it gives me close to the same accuracy of my old JM Guide Guns I will be thrilled. I am disappointed to hear that Fotis. By most accounts Remington has been improving on their Marlin builds. I'd be curious about the build date on the one you handled.

I can only guess it was a newer one since the model is somewhat a newer model
