I got a news blurt today that Marlin is closing their doors???? Can anyone on here shed any light about this company called "The Freedom Group" that has been buying up gun company's like Marlin, Bushmaster,Remington,Dakota Arms and H&R, this company is apparently owned by none other than Cerberus Capital Management ????????? Who the heck are they???
Well that is a company controlled by George Soros ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Obama's chief financier???
Most of us probably remember he is the owner of Progressive Insurance company............
Why is he trying to flat "buy up" the gun industry in the USA??????
He has put many millions into Obamas Presidency, and I for one find this a very scary idea that someone in this day and age, could be pulling off a similar stunt that John D Rockefellerller did with
Standard Oil at the turn of the century ....................... just flat out BUY IT UP !!!!!
Now the next question is ????? As soon as they have complete control of the gun industry; how long before we see the next Ludlow Massacre????
OMG

May want to do a bit more digging. Last I heard the rumor run around was a couple months back and turns out it was from an article from several years before. I don't know if this the same thing going around or if there have been new developments.

Also last time the Soros thing came up, I think that was debunked. The company uppity ups denied any and all involvement pertaining to Soros.

The old Marlin plant closed a couple of years ago in 2010, after the company was purchased.

Marlins made since then have been made by Remington. Initially there were significant quality control problems, and those rifles became known as "Remlins" - a very derogatory term!

The ones I've looked at lately seem to have improved in quality. I hope that trend continues. The old Marlin plant and rifles are badly missed by many of us lever action fans.

You can read more about all this over on the Marlin Owners forum. It's been hashed out there many times.

Regards, Guy

Thanks guys....................... how on heck does all this stuff get started???????
Anyway one John D is enough for one century...........

Guy, are they back at a sufficient quality level now that if you were in the market for one a new production model wouldn't scare you away?

Who knows LOL! Things get spread around so fast on the internet and there are no fact checkers standing by to be sure no erroneous information gets out. I think it was Abraham Lincoln that said, "You can't believe everything you read on the internet."

BK - I'd look real hard at the individual rifle before spending my money, and I'd buy from a dealer where I had a good, long-standing relationship. That way if I got it home or to the range and discovered that it just didn't work right, I could bring it back.

Fortunately I've already got a couple of slick older Marlins that please me.

The Marlins I see in the rack at our local shop, seem to look pretty good anymore though. I'm encouraged!
