Hi,
August of 09' I purchased a .243, 1:12, SS, varmint barrel with a 11 degree crown for my Savage 11. Dan, who takes the orders, told me I would be suprised at the accuracy this barrel would delivery at 300 yards. I found one load with a 65 grain Hornady v-max printed a one inch group at 300. But that took awhile, although it's not consistant. I shoot off sand bags that supports from the trigger to the end of the forearm. A Boyd thumbhole stock, with the barrel completely freefloated, and a 2.5 pound accu-trigger. The stock is not bedded, pillered or glassed. It shoots fairly consistant at 100, never above 2 inch, usaully 1 inch. I used a twist calulator that Dan suggested, it helped for the most part, guess I'm expecteing one holers. McGowen website says up to 85 grains for the 1:12. Should I be looking at a 1:8 and heavier bullet at 300 and futher? Or maybe try a MK form sierra?
