I have checked the loaded neck diameter for some of the cartridges that I have in my arsenal, and compared it to the Nosler specs for clearance and some took me by surprise that two of my loaded rounds have .002" -.003" clearance, the Creed and the 6.5 x 284, I already fixed the issue with the Normas in the 300 Win Mag where I turned the necks to .335"
Would anyone like to input their loaded neck measurements for various cartridges and the brand of brass to get an idea on clearances on various brass names. Different brands of brass has different neck thickness. Looks like I may need to turn some necks on some of these, amazing that it shoots so good to mess with it.
What is the best clearance between a loaded neck and chamber SAAMI specs? I think .004" clearance is ideal. It's a great idea to share measurements so we can decide on what brass to choose for your rifle.
Caliber/ Brass/ Measured/ SAAMI neck specs:
6.5 Creedmoor/ Nosler/ .292" / .295"
6.5 X 284/ Lapua/ .294" / .296"
308 Win/ Lapua/ .338" / .344"
300 Win Mag/ Lapua/ .338"/ .340" ( turned to .335" )
300 Win Mag/ Norma/ .335" / .340"
