Well said, Guy. Seems to be too little memorilising, and a bit too much holidaying. My mind turns to friends who came back from VN in flag-draped casket.I can get a little happy now and then on Memorial Day. Then the weight of all those who were killed in the line of duty overwhelms me. I'm good for a joke or two, a lighthearted memory or two, then I'm kinda done and just reflecting on those whom we sent to war, and didn't return.
Some of my buddies didn't make it back. It's a good day to think of them.

I get it my friend. This kind of post is great for others to read, when they hear from someone, an individual, who was affected by war loss.Major Anthony Oliver, Ranger, my brother in law. Lance Corporal Danny Lynch my cousin, Florant Groburger, Capt US Army. CMH for his actions when Catherine’s team came under attack in Afganistan. These are the men I think about on Veterans Day and Memorial Day. They each had a great impact on my life.
I grew up hearing my mother talk about her brother who was killed in WW2, my father and uncles served in WW2, older cousins in Korea and Vietnam. With the help of my local West Virginia House of Delegate Roy Cooper the road that went by my mother's homeplace has been named a memorial road in honor of her brother PFC Frank Maddy, Army and we will be dedicating the signs that have been placed for him. I have a deep respect for all of our veterans.
Guy, I come from the Vietnam era and I lost four good friends who were on the high school swimming team with me. We have had the travelling wall come through our area and it's still a bit difficult to look at the names of people who were your good friends.I get it my friend. This kind of post is great for others to read, when they hear from someone, an individual, who was affected by war loss.
I suspect that most of the people in America don't even know anyone on active duty, let alone someone who perished on duty...
