I had the privilege to hunt Valhalla Game Ranch in Grayling MI and take a cull buck earlier this week. This facility had some pretty amazing animals but I was after a nice little cull buck to help keep the game management plan on track.

I took the M673 Guide rifle chambered in 6.5mm Rem Mag loaded with a 130 gr AB and topped with a Leupold VXIII 2.5-8x36mm set up with M1 dials. This rig will shoot well under .5 MOA and was more than up to the task at hand.

We were set up in a tower box blind and had several deer come in. I set up on a "shooter" buck after taking this picture. The 8 pt in the center walking to the right is our cull buck.

I took the classic high shoulder hold and sent the 130 gr AB at 3050 fps on its way hitting both shoulders just under the spine. He pulled his rear legs up and folded on the spot. The 130 gr AB took out the top of both lungs and exited leaving a hole the size of a dime.

I also shot a coyote the following morning, dropping it in its tracks at 60 yds.

I think I am going to like this little 6.5mm Rem Mag, it kills like lighting.

Sweet rifle and nice little buck! Your freezer must be overflowing! You're the freakin' man Jim!

Good luck up in da UP, eh! I'm jealous!

I hope we can get together for late doe or something. I'd love to hang.

I'll pm you...

Great pictures Jim and I can see the little 6.5 doing some great things! Scotty

Nice buck, cool caliber 8) sounds like great performance from your 6.5mm RM

All right, now I find the account of the deer. Congratulations on the deer. That is a cool round, and the rifle is becoming more attractive all the time.

Congratulations Jim, that's sure a nice buck and a really nice looking rifle! Even if it is a REMINGTON!

Nice shooting too sir!

WOOOO HOOOOO, I like when the Remington guys even know the error of their judgement!!!

Just kidding, I gotta say, my CDL Whelen is a favorite. Wouldn't trade it, at least I don't think I would????? Scotty

Now, there is a beautiful Whelen. Shame on you, ROVERT. Scotty won't be able to sleep tonight.

Bunch on enablers! All of yous~

Hey Jim good job on the buck :) as far as the 35 Whelen photos that is mean. I am waiting ever so not patiently and hoping to get to use it this season. Oh well I am just going downstairs a little later to load up some ABs for next weeks Big Buck season
I think 50 or should I make a 100
Blessings

Yeah, I imagine if you loaded a 100 of them Dan you would be set for quite awhile! It'll give you some time to monkey around with your new Whelen when you get it.

I'm still looking forward to using the 264 this year for the spots where longer shots are expected. Going to shoot it a little this weekend. Still can't decide between the 140gr PTs or 140 AB. I think I will have something after the weekend. Scotty

Congratulations Jim! That rifle is a 10 in my book,,,,,,reminds me of this little redhead in the 7th grade, braces, freckles, and all. There was something about her that I couldn't resist, and drew my eyes into long stares. Then as now, I wish that rifle was in my grasp

I have about 6 different rifles that I would trade for that Whelen!!!!! But I will bet Scotty will beat me to it. !

I pulled it up and saw that they are extremely proud of it. Its 180 miles from my house and 160 from Charlies, he also likes those Winchesters.

That is one very sharp Whelen. I wouldn't mind carrying it around the mountains a little! Go ahead and get it Bill. Might as well have the perfect rifle, an M70 in a 35 Whelen. Scotty
