Last Sunday, eight days ago, Molly hurt her shoulder while on a walk. I was walking she was running like crazy, she's a shorthair. A couple of trips to the local veterinary, she wasn't getting better resulted in a referral to a orthopedic specialist in Portland.Been there since 0830. Doc says she suffered a traumatic injury. Severed her bicep tendon. Ripped that sucker right off the scapula. Surgery this afternoon with a guarded prognosis on recovery. The Doc is a bird Hunter. He said regardless she's done hunting chuker in hells canyon she'll probably be able to hunt pheasant. But not four days a week. Looks like I won't be guiding much this fall. Terrible blow. Hopefully you will be able to get in some pheasant hunting this fall, for yourself and for Molly's sake.

Just spoke to the vet. Surgery went well. They were able to effectively repair the tendon, but by attaching to the upper end of the leg bone. Too much damage to try and stretch the tendon back up over the joint. Good news, far less invasive repair. Bad news, the shoulder is less stable. I'm delaying my departure by a week. She will see the doc one more time before we head up to King salmon. Then it's rehab time for four months.

Rehab. Good. Doggone it. :( Hate it when my dog isn't well.

Time to add another dog for the hard hunts?

Molly and you are in my prayers.

Vince

Thanks guys, I had started looking before she got hurt. Passed on a couple of spring pups because I didn't want to deal with a puppy while guiding this summer. Now thinking about a started dog, but I'm not sure. I think that bonding time from 7 weeks to three months is so important. One way or another Guy, I'll be adding a dog this fall instead of a new rifle

I am sorry to hear of Molly's injury, will be praying for a complete recovery.
My oldest boy just picked up his first GSP last Thursday :) he got him out of Williston North Dakota. He is a 9 week old male and we had him out this past weekend for a walk. He is quite the little hunter already doing a few points.
We find it interesting as I have always had labs and the 2 I have now are retired .
If I knew how I put a few photos of him on the site .

Blessings,
Dan

Dan,

If you go down to where you normally type your response to a thread and hit "Full Editor" then you can attach a photo. The place to do that is right below where you would type your response where it says "Upload Attachment". The is a spot that says "Browse". Click that and find the file on your computer. Double click the file with the picture when you find it. Then the file name will appear next to the "Browse" tab you clicked to find it. If you want to add more than one you click on the spot that says "add the file" and it will add it so you can use the "Browse" tab again to find another. You have to click on "add the file" for every picture you want to load. After your all done hit Submit and your done.

If your file size is too big I use Irfanview to resize my pictures. If you load Irfanview on your computer and right click on the file that is too big it will let you pick what you want to open it with. Pick Irfanview and then go to the top where it says "Image". Click on that and go down to where is says resize/resample. When you click on that a box will pop up that lets you adjust the size. Where it says Width and Height I make the larger of the two 1000. Then click OK. Then go to the top again where it says file and scroll down to where it says "Save As". When you click on that it will allow you to name the file. If you don't want to rename it you can just click on "Save". Then your done making the picture smaller.

I use taps talk on my I phone, very straight forward for adding pics.
Dan, I think you're in perfect country for your son's shorthair. While they are given to covering immense amounts of ground, 5 or 6 times what your son will cover minimum, with work you can slow them down. Don't be surprised if the dog takes the easy ground past what you think is good cover, his nose will let him know. Have fun.

Looking good, nice ear carriage a blaze on the nose and good shoulders already. How big are his parents?

SC, sorry to hear about Molly. Hopefully she'll get back to being with you in the field and prove her worth.

Dan, what a cute puppy! I'm sure the little boy and that puppy will be best buds for a long time!

Wow, Dan. Posting your own. I feel so ... useless. Good looking pup, BTW. (y)

That's terrible atleast you will still get to hunt with her some even if it's on a limited bases.

Similar markings to Molly, I like that. Some say the shorthairs are more business than good pets. Give them room and time to run, you're going to have a 55 pound lap dog.

Molly is a beauty that is for sure. (y)
My son Mike advised that the breeder is actually from Epping North Dakota and the Kennel is called Woodward. He is from Gorge and the Draw door litter.
This is the first pup we have taken from an American Breeder but from research it looks like he does a very good job.

Blessings,
Dan

My Son is a runner and at 6'5" tall he can cover a lot of ground . He has already mentioned that Scotch loves to go but at the end of a workout he want up on your lap for a good nap .
Scotch is coming over this weekend to visit our 2 old ladies. Belle our younger of the 2 labs will love him to death but my older one Colt doesn't really like males very much so we will have to watch as she has a tendency to tune them in real quick.
Hopefully I will have more photos  I think you might have created a photograph poster .

Blessings,
Dan
PS. Belle is the thicker of the 2 :).
