Not quite as bad as I feared overall, some hard hit areas but things are stable for the most part. This survey mentions my part of B.C. the lower Skeena was counted this last winter and was still doing O.K. but the Nass area was shut down last year and who knows what the future holds. Too bad I know some real good spots there...... I'm just glad they are still leaving us with our 1 week season for some of our area still and not just putting it all on the LEH draw system.

I hope one day to visit that area and hunt the mighty moose.

JD the Peace where Mike lives heading north or northwest B.C. are your best bet to get a big moose. Hopefully you can do it one day.

Mike I'm looking forward to hunting moose this year, hopefully I can draw a tag one of these years. If not we will hit the 1 week season hard.

Gerry,

You're always welcome to come on over. I have a spare room and we can show you where a few moose hang out, I do believe.

gerry, take that Whelen over to Mikes' and he can use one of his 35 calibres and you guys will have a good ole time :). If you do remember lots of photographs
Hey maybe I could be the skinner  Never seen a Mountain Moose :?

Dan,

I only hunt valley moose; mountain moose take too much work to get off the mountain.

Mountain Moose are not as bad as Swamp Donkey Moose ! Right Dr Mike - Gerry ! ? LOL

Cheers RJ

Jim we have swamp donkeys here in Saskatchewan
Been hunting those critters for over 40 years. I once shot a valley Moose it to almost 6 hours get him out. Mind you our valleys are a little different than those around where Mike lives.

Blessings,
Dan

There are some swamps that would be far worse than packing one off the mountain although I have seen some while sheep hunting that would have taken days to pack out.

I hope to make it over to the Peace soon but don't think it will be this year though. Maybe we will get the elk permit this winter.

Ya' got a place to stay. Swamp donkeys have a nasty habit of looking around when shot so that they can determine the most sloppy, inhospitable location imaginable in which to expire. There is no experience like gutting a moose while standing immersed in water up to your waist (in a swamp} while snow is drifting down about your ears. It sure does make you appreciate beef.

I had the experience of retrieving a large swamp donkey one time where I was the guy who nominated to put the chest waders on & then take the retrieval rope out into a thinly ice covered beaver flood approximately 100 yards to tie it off on his horns, 1/2 way the water crept over top of the waders . I was speaking 3 OCTAVES higher for the rest of the day
It did not even shoot the beast . Still now looking back on it we sure used to have some
great times.

PS. even with my waders 1/2 full I was moving real quick

Blessings,
Dan

I can picture the whole thing Dan, that ice covered water is cold :) There is nothing quite like hunting moose, very exciting. They are so big and taste so good too :)
