Did a second range test with my Ruger .338 win mag.
Results were not near as good as the 1st time out. But this is only mildly disscouraging , as Even though the groups were not up to my standards, there were several of the common 2 rounds touching and the 3rd blowing things up.
I shot 3 or 4 loads with RL-19. That is the powder that was best in the Winchester .338 i sold to buy this one.
With the .225 grain acubond that did so well with the V-N160, my results were around 2 inches.
I did a little better with a 200 grain speer and IMR-4350. But nothing was good enough for any hunting load.
I am now all out of the 225 grain acubonds, and can't find any localy , so I loaded up some 215 grain sierra BTs over the N-160. I will test fire them tommorow (I hope). I did manage to find some 200 and some 250 grain accubonds.
I am planning to load some of the 200s over the same N-160.
My latest Nosler manual lists neither of those 2 accubonds.
But I went to the web site and found the BC for the 200 grain is a decent .414.
But there was no Mention of the 250 grainer. tried to make a phone call but it was 4:34 and office hours close at 4:30. I will call tommorow.
Intersted in the BC of the 250 grain bullet. The 225AB is a whopping .550. And for elk hunting, i am sure the 200 or the 225 grainer will be excelent.
that .250 would be good for moose though.
Any body tried ramshot hunter in a .338 win ? .
Love to see how well a 17.00 a LB powder does compared to a 24.00 LB V-N160.

The BC for the 338 cal 250AB is reported to be around .575. As for 338WM load info for Accubonds, just use the recipes listed in the #6 manual for that specific bullet weight.
I use 73gn of RL-19 in my Browning A-Bolt to propel a 225AB just under 2800FPS. If you have any more questions, please ask.

I had decent results with the 225 grain acubond in the Model 70 classic I sold to buy this ruger.
I mean I would get about 1.5 inches. But in my 1st shoot , with the ruger, I had outstanding results shooting the same bullet over 70.5 grains of V N-160.
I just loaded the same powder with some 200 grain acubonds Chg weight 79 grains. That should put the 200 grainer out at around 2800 acording to ammo guide.
the max listed load for the combo pushes that bullet out at over 3000.
I think either bullet would be excelent for elk, but i have a slight preference for the .225 grain. I think It might be a great option as a general purpose bullet.
.575 is quite a impressive figure for the 250 grain bullet.
If I were shooting a 340 weatherby or a laupua size case, I can't think of a better long range hunting bullet.
But for the area I hunt I think a 225 or 200 is a better choice with the Win mag...tj3006

Sounds like you have another Hawkeye that is really shooting well. 338 is one fine cartridge and it is so versatile. Can't wait to see how you continued load work goes and what load you settle on as your go to load.
