most accurate rifle you have ever owned or fired.

Nice rig you gotta love the mcmillan HTG/M40.

That camo pattern on the McM's just looks Old Corps! Everything has gone digital nowadays, but the old green pattern is still my favorite. Scotty

I have two rifles that are my best shooters. The first is my Kimber Montana in .300WSM. Three "careful" shots with a 180 grain sierra pro hunter will get me between .50 and .75 at 100 yards. The second rifle believe it or not is a Remington 700 titanium ( original issue when they were under a grand) It's in 7-08 and with 140 grain sierra boat tails will shoot three in a hair over .50 but at rifle weight of 5 3/4lbs don't breathe the wrong way or think about moving. I really haven't done any 100 yard shooting with my 700 in .338RUM but at 200 yards with 225 partitions I get an honest 1 1/2 inches. The comment about rifles shooting better than you can is on the money.

DF that is pretty impressive shooting! Just curious as to the rilfe caliber, make, bullet, scope, etc. on that also.

DF you forgot the bullet! Man is that 338 Lapua not fast enough you Ackley'd it! Wow. That is one fantastic rig. No wonder you can shoot it so well! With the brake and the weight I suspect it's not bad to shoot from the prone either!

DF you forgot the bullet!

That's right Dave. It's the 300 grain Sierra Match King with G1 BC of .768. The rifle weight a tad over 16 pounds. The rifle still kick and harder on the shoulder, specially on a long string shot. Anyone can shoot this rifle accurately... it's just that easy. The rifle came with 2 barrel so I will be using the 7WSM for the July 31st match at the Desert Marksman in Palmdale, CA.

When did leuoold start using that new elevation knob? Palmdale? I used to roadrace motorcycles out there at willow springs raceway in the 90's the perfect place for a rifle match.

That's an IOR Valdada that the rifle ripped apart in pieces... twice. It now rides with my 308 Tactical Rifle. The Leupold came out with exposed knob on their Mark4 line about 10 years ago.

i have had a couple mark 4s just giving you a little crap is all. liked the mark 4 just got into the nighforce scopes and got rid of the leupolds. nice rifle by the way.

I have no issue with my MK4's. I own 3 and so far no issue. The 6.5X20X50 on my 338 Lapua Ackley had been subjected to hundred rounds of punishing recoil and it held up pretty good. I can't say much about my shoulder :) .

your load for your 338 lm ackley is similar to my 338 um load??? i am using 96g retumbo with a 300 grain berger and a fed gm magnum primer. at 2840 fps. that cant be near maximum on the lm. is that where it shot the best? understand the shoulder i didnt have a break on mine until i started shooting the 300 grain bullets, that got a little to western for me. that break is nice but i hate the muzzle blast. i just sold mine looking to build a lm in the future i liked the 338 ultra but spending a $1.10 on junk brass helped my decision to part with it. pretty sad having an awesome round that fits in a standard magnum magazine crippled by garbage brass! nice rifle by the way mine was a single shot as well.

I have 9.3 twist barrel so I have to watch pressure signs. I can push the 300 SMK around 2900fps+ but it will be harder on brass. At almost $3.00/piece, I need for it to last bit long. So far, I'm into 5th firing and the primer pocket still tight. I do annealed the brass after every two firings.

I kept my velocity around 2835 fps. With the 300 SMK's high BC number, it can remains supersonic all the way to 1760 yards, which is about a mile.

Tikka M695 , 7mm Rem Mag, stainless with laminated stock, shot every handload I have tried under 1 inch and its favorite handload groups at .340" for 3 shots. And this is a complete out of the box rifle with absolutely nothing done to it.

Also have a Win Mod 70 XTR Featherweight 30/06 that will do .345" with its favorite handload using 180 gr Nosler Part.

Not quite as super accurate as some, but plenty good enough for me!

Jimbeaux82,

It sounds as if you have a couple of winners in those rifles. What are your loads with those two rifles?

Desert fox have you have problems with it shooting high out past 800 yards in relation to your chart?? I noticed you used a G-1 bc value. I started using the G-7 value on jbm ballistics a few years ago and find it a lot more consistent than the G-1 inputs. I also think that bullet won't go subsonic until well after 2200 yards. You still have killing power on deer out to the 1700+ plus mark.

Dr Mike,

here are the loads I mentioned

7mm Rem Mag - 150 gr BT, 69.0 gr WMR, Fed 215, 3.375" OAL, 3090 fps

30/06 - 180 NP, 57.0 gr H4350, CCI LR Primer, 2700 fps, dont have the info with me on OAL

I'm good using G1 model. I tested this as far as 1332 yards, using my EXBAL and it's spot on. I just purchased Jonathan Zdziarski Ballistic FTE for my I-phone and been playing with it for awhile now. It utilizes JBM for all it's ballistic computing. I will see how accurate it's computation on my next thousand yard shoot.

I still use the G1 value also, have killed deer out to 1350, I did hafta tweak the BC just a bit to make my chart match my trajectory. nosler claims a G1 of .531 for the 160 AccuBond, I run it at .62 to make my charts right.
