most accurate rifle you have ever owned or fired.

My factory 300 Win Mag is by far my most accurate and most consistent. Year after year sub 1/2 min groups. I once had a 22-250 that I shot pennies with but that one is gone. Most of the rest will shoot 1" at 100 if they don't someone else owns them.

I had a Remington 700 heavy barreledl 22-250 with 24' barrel that would shoot consistantly under .5" stupedly sold that one.

My current Savage in 7mm RM is not too bad of a shooter until the barrel fouls (some day a custom barrel).

My 270WSM M70 is my most accurate rifle. Seems like everything I have ever put through it shot under an inch, most does much better. Even during the early times with the rifle, when I was in Camp Pendleton, shooting factory ammo, the rifle would shoot the 140gr Winchester Supreme into bug holes. After I started loading for it, I couldn't make it shoot over an inch with anything. One of my most pleasurable rifles to shoot.

I have no real bug hole targets to speak of, but like Guy and Bill, I shoot for 1" groups and then kinda quit the bench and start working further out.

RR- Awesome target! That is one that would be framed in my house! Scotty

Savage 10FP .260 Remington. It has always shot well but one day shooting a home rolled load with Sierra 120 Matchkings I got a group at a 100 yds that measured .123 c-c.

I have several rifles that shoot in the .3's and .4's conssitently as long as I don't screw it up but this is the best I've ever done.

I shot this rifle once in a metallic silhouette match and was very impressed with how hard the 140 Sierras from this rifle hit the sight-in ram at 500 meters (the farthest I ever shot at anything).

Can't beat those M70's! Scotty

I have fired a dz or better full blown custom rigs built. a few for short range BR & a few long range BR. I have seen those rifles shot by the respective owners who rank in the top ten of the respective disciplines, so I am talking rifles capable of the finest accuracy possible (today).

It still boils down to the nut behind the trigger... Those guys (top shooters) can make those rifles do wonderous things and I can only do 1/4 - 1/2 as good as they can with the same dang rifle..

Want to drive yourself crazy? Build a top shelf rifle, and be able to shoot a consisitant 1/2 MOA. At that point you get pretty full of yourself and start questioning your load, the bullet and yes, the gun.. So you then hand your rifle to one of the top shooters and have em shoot it.... They can shoot 1/4 MOA without breaking a sweat... Humbling experience... Lol...

Lordy I am humble!!!!!

guy miner great rifles! i have had the chance to use a anschutz 54 national match which were always seen right along the 52Bs! to be honest i have only owned two rifles with a #5 barrel or smaller on it. if your ever in the montana area we have a long range precision shoot on the west side of the state every month i think that 308 would be right at home. again nice gear!

You've nail it right in the head there Rod.

This remind me of the Long range Shooting class that I attended to a few months ago. The instructor, an ex Army Sniper, told us that the rifles that we brought to the class were all capable of outshooting us. The instructor point out my deficiency immediately as soon as I positioned myself behind my rifle. Talking about being humbled. I thought I know it all.

What did he adjust your spine alingnment with the rifle your grip or the cheekweld?

The Most Accurate rifle I have fired was a Remington 700 Varmint in 223 Remington. A friend bet me I couldn't shoot a barbed wire strand in half at 200 yards, well I was kinda surprised I hit it too but I did and then he went double or nothing on the next strand down. Lets Just say I had some fence fixing to do real quick before the cows found the new hole in the wire! Wish I could say that rifle is in my gun cabinet though it is not.

The most accurate I own is a tie between my Winchester 30-06 and Remington 25-06...the 25-06 is more consistently accurate. With 100 grain B-tips on top of H or IMR 4350 I can group them in .300" for several groups.

The 30-06 with its pet loads, the 165 grain PT or AB (it doesnt matter that much) will get just under half inch (for three shot groups) regularly but never more than 3/4" when you start shooting 5 shot groups the 30-06 usually opens up to about an inch or just under. The 25-06 seems to stay right around .400" for 5 shot groups.

My 300 Mag would hold in .350" for three shot groups with select handloads but five shot groups opened up to 1" easily, probably because of me more than anything I am sure.

that the rifles that we brought to the class were all capable of outshooting us.

Right on DF!!! Those courses you took, I am envious!!! But flippin happy for you!!! You can share my humility... Lol!!

That is the truth. Fact is, most of us are not capable of shooting the rifle to its capability. We simply do not have the time to commit to being repetativley consistant!! I am more like a blind hog, who finds a truffle now and then. "Snort-Snort"!!

I would dang near cut of one of two things to spend a weekend one-on-one with an bonifide LR shooting coach or similar. I keep looking for HP clinics that have at least a couple hour clinic and they are slim to none without at least a days travel both ways + expenses. Thats alright tho.. Someday I will....

Till then, "Snort-Snort"..

Being a self thought shooter, I never really learned fundamentals. I do read and applied what I learned in the field but no one there to really critic me or to tell me if I'm doing it right or wrong. I always shoot prone whether target shooting or hunting and I always position my self with my right knee slightly forward and the rifle angling slightly to the left. You can see what I mean with the picture of me during one of my 1K match.

The instructor told me that my position is more appropriate when shooting a sling rifle but not with a bipod. He asked me to try laying flat with my stomach with my leg spread apart and have both tip of my shoes in firm contact with the ground. He also instructed me to get my shoulder squared with the rifle butt. I was not comfortable at first but then after a couple of rounds, I found this position much more solid than with a raise right leg. I tried it in my last competition and I notice big improvement with my performance. The only drawback was, your shoulder takes a beating when shooting a hard kicking rifle.

Here's the improvement I'm talking about. I was able put 13 out of 25 shot into a 10" - X ring at 1K

Good shooting! I think you will notice when you employ the way he told you to shoot from a bipod that it is conducive to getting the rifle to recoil straight back. When the body is in line with the rifle properly your sight picture in the scope is recovered almost instantly after firing, this helps in seeing the impact and being able to compensate with the reticle if need be. And your exactly right it is uncomfortable at first.

Hmmmm.. This I must try.... I do what DF did, off a rest in the prone position (F-Class) and have a huge prob with the rifle torquing... HHmmmm... "Snort-Snort", I may have found a truffle....

Sure, I am taking the boat out with the kid, exploring new waters.. Now I cant wait to try the in-line position.. Gonna drive me up a wall till I can...

Thanks, DF & USMC!!!!!!!

The most accurate rifle I've ever shot was a suppressed Accuracy International .300 Win Mag with NightForce glass built off of a Remington 700 action. Up there with the .300 is the M24 Remington 700. Third would be the Knight's Armament Company M110/Mk11 which is built off of the SR-25.

...most accurate rifle I've owned, .223 blue-printed Mod. 700 action, Hart barrel, Jewel trigger, McMillan stock, 6X18 VX-II...
