Montana has raised the prices so much that sales are way off. The sales drop is also precipitated by a drop in deer populations across the state due to EHD. Some herds have been virtually wiped out (Area 7 and some places in Area 4 come to mind.)

Elk numbers are still ok if you aren't near an active wolf pack. Some of the areas are a little sparse.

There are still deer to be found but you will have to be a lot more persistent than in the past.

Thank you.
I knew it was too good to be true.

Thanks!
Guess that would explain the leftover numbers they still have.
Sounded like a deal even if the price was a little bit up there. Oh, well.

There is still good hunting to be had, you will just have to work harder! I didn't mean to discourage you, but to give a reason why they have leftovers (again).

I'm not going after elk this year, but will be hunting in area 4 for white tails. I took a nice 5x5 there last year.

I haven't bothered applying for Montana tags since the price increase happened a couple years back I just mail in for em now. There's plenty of good public land to hunt on. We've never seen another person or heard a shot fired in the area of the Bob we hunt.
