Muzzle tape

Old Jim Shockey tapes his muzzle as well. I think he uses plain old electrical tape to keep water/snow and other nasty stuff out of his barrel.

What do you guys uses?

Sure wasted a good rifle holding the muzzle up in the air and letting it collect water. I have these really small balloons and I slip on over it in bad weather and I also whether the weather has been bad or not look down my barrel before I load for the hunt. :)

Tape would be a good idea. I did read that the shooters previous shot was a dud, no powder in the case. The primer sent the bullet half way down the barrel and his follow up shot is what we saw.

He is a very lucky!

I thought I read in the statements under the flick that he got mud down his barrel. I use the little finger covers that look like a little bitty condom. There was a group of guys in base camp on my elk trip this year who put tape over muzzle loader barrel. they thought my gun rubber was funny. but when one of them missed a big 6X6 because he "thought he had to remove the tape before he shot" I guess we know who had the last laugh!

I use mall balloons, they slip on easy ans stay put, plus if you shoot while in the ield they are easy to replace.
I fugured there was not much need to get high tech.

Well what ever happened the man is one fortunate guy that God was watching over.

If a round does not go off I wait for one minute and then eject the round.

If the round does not sound right or is different in any way from what usually happens I eject the brass and then take the bolt out and look down my barrel.

If I am ready to hunt I take the bolt out and check to see if my barrel is clear of obstructions then I load my rifle.

If it is going to be wet weather I use a little balloon and cover my barrel.

If I am going to do a lot of spot and stalking I still cover my barrel because twigs and small objects can find their way into my barrel.

Before I take my shot I notice if the balloon is torn or punctured before I remove it letting me know that there might be something in my barrel.

Simple things to do that just might save your face, hands, life or someone else who might be standing close to you.

Gun safety is not a feeling it is a choice. Accidents happen because wrong choices are made in the excitement of the hunt but that is no excuse for not thinking or taking your time to make responsible choices.

Remember that an accident with a fire arm is like an arrow shot from a bow, you can't call it back once it is in flight.
