Well here it is, my bedding job that did not turn out the greatest. I was just about done with the project tonight and the stupid trigger guard broke as I was adding the last little bit of torque to the screw. So if anyone has a Ruger M77 black trigger guard, please let me know.
It looks decent WT, kinda looks like something reacted with the resin though. Could just be the picture. Either way, it isn't tough to add to it, it'll bond to itself as long as there isn't any release agent on it.
Looks pretty good though, trust me, my first one wasn't as good as yours. The first time is the hardest, now you have the idea, so I am betting you'll have some self taught tips the next time around as well.
The reason for rough looking part from the screw hole to the mag opening is the picture. That part is smooth. Where it is rough is in front of the recoil lug. This is the 3rd stock I have bedded and this one kicked me hard. I don't know if I tried to hurry something or what. I do know I added too much compound to start out with and had a mess. I will admit, the Savage I just did was way easier. If I were to bed a Ruger again, I would bed the pillars first then come back and do the rest after it all hardens. I tried to do it in one shot and got burnt.
Is the front partof the bedding in front of the recoil lug touching the barrel? In the pic it doesn't look like it. If not just drill some anchor holes ( 1/8 inch) diagonally into the existing bedding to lock it in place then re bed. Should work just fine.
What did you use for the bedding compound and release agent?
I used Devcon and shoe wax. I pulled it apart after a few hours of setting to check in. That step took out some of the bedding. It was sticking to the metal of the rifle. I think if I would have let it set up, I would never have gotten it out. When I reinstalled the metal, it was too hard to self level in the low spots. That is why it looks so bad.
