Nice setup hes got there. I bet it will drive tacks.

Curious what prompted a build on an A-Bolt? That not exactly in the tactical rifle mainstream!

Awfully nice rig, though.

They each look very businesslike. The 6.5-47 Lapua appears to be an interesting cartridge that is generating quite a bit of buzz.

What is the bullet he is planning on shooting? This is the caliber I am planning on building an F-class rifle in and wondered if the 8 twist was for a specific bullet.

Frank has this rifle for quite sometime and it was chambered for 22-250. We thought it would be a perfect action to build his first true Tactical/Target rifle. The action is similar to the Weatherby MK V and it's very smooth.

The 8 twist is ideal for up to 140 grain VLD Match. Lot's of 6.5-47 is using 8.5 also. Mine has an 8 twist Kreiger and shoots the 130 grain Berger VLD really well.

nice! i just got mine today still needs to be cerakoted but operational. smith went on vacation be back in a week to finish it. shooting well in the break in period used the 130 jlk and the berger 130 vld both impressive. using 40.5 g h-4350 and there registering right at 2850 through the oehler. joel will get a chance to shoot it this weekend. sent scotty some pics and am sure he will post them when he gets time.

Rommel,

Those are some fine groups you are showing there. Not too shabby!

Thank you DrMike. I'm really exited with this cartridge. One of my buddy is going to hunt elk in New Mexico this year and he is planning to use his 6.5-47 on elk. Man talking about under gun. But knowing how he shoot, I'm confident he'll get his elk with his 6 and a half.

The cartridge wouldn't be my first choice for elk, but if an individual knows his rifle and works within the limits, it can work. I just work with a fellow this afternoon who was asking about the 240 Weatherby for larger game. I gave him the same advice.

Bullets matter far more than headstamps.

Glad I've never lost a bet big enough,to be forced to build on a A-Bort.

Just for interest, a good friend is shooting this calibre with 37gns Rel.15, 129gn Hornady SST, & CCI BR primer. He's using Lapua Brass. A brilliant knock down round giving neck shots on Red Hinds easily out to 250 yds. when the right conditions are present.
The usual 100 - 200yd. 'Engine Room' shots with the rifle/cartridge combination on Red Stags & Hinds are just so easy.
Realistically, this should take Elk at any normal range I'd have thought??
Cheers, ET

Nice. A guy shows off something a little different, and you pee in his (well, his friend's) Cheerios. While an A-Bolt wouldn't be my first choice, in the end, you have a rifle with a top-shelf barrel, and a top shelf stock.

Looks good to me. Alot of folks like the Brownings. All I have shot have been excellent shooters too? Whats wrong with them?

I've more than a few Hart's and more than a few McMillan's. The A-Bort is a sorry joke, though yet funny.

They are a poor design, executed with poor materials and are shoddy in all respects, from stem to stern.

If only for starters.

Wow! I'm not really familiar with Browning A-Bolt since I've never own one. I do have 2 other friends that own a 7 Mag. I load for both rifle and it seems like they shoot really well.

This particular Browning however is much older than the other two and has 6 lugs like a Mini Weatherby MK V. The action has 60 degree bolt lift and cycle really smooth. The trigger is superb also.

Rommel,

All the Brownings I've shot performed very well. I still grieve over the Eurobolt I let get away. There's not a thing wrong with the Browning design or action. It's a preference thing. Unfortunately, some people can't distinguish between reality and their own fantasies.
