My buddy Frank's 6.5-47 Lapua

Neat rifle, and he lets me shoot it now and again for his entertainment. I don't mind the bolt being on the wrong side so much, it's that SHORT stock that gets me! That rifle and I just don't fit. It is a serious shooter though. As I recall it's built on a Remington action, and put together by R-Bros rifles here in Washington.

That thing DOES look awfully short. I'm not too sure I could keep the scope out of my forehead, even on a braked heavy-barreled 6.5x47. Sweet rig, though. Just needs about 2" of LOP.

That is beautiful, functions well also, great shooting. Great job as usual.

If I shot a rifle with the scope that far back it would come out behind my ear. All of mine are from the rear of the tag forward.

Have you tried R17 yet? A couple guys I spoke with last week said they have made the switch from 4350 to R17. Seems there are some rifles that like it, but the pressure curve can come up really fast if you aren't watching for the pressure signs.

The other question is; what is the number of grooves in your barrel? Everything I have been reading says that the number of grooves can play a role in whether the barrel is fast or slow.

I did try Reloader 17 and accuracy is just as good as the H4350 or the IMR 4350 for that matter. I have no problem with accuracy as this rifle will shoot anything. My problem is with the velocity. I can't seem get above 2825 fps without pressure issue.

The Krieger has 5R rifling.

I spoke with my smith yesterday and he told me that the JGS reamer that he ordered has a tight neck that measured .291". All my fired case measured .290" with .001" spring back. On the other hand the fired case from Franks rifle measured .293".

My case has an average wall thickness that measured .014"+/-. That gave me .292" neck measurement for a loaded round. No wonder my fired case will still hold the bullet tight. Maybe this is where my pressure issue is coming from.

By the way, I did have 25 cases that I neck turned a few weeks ago - just to clean and uniformed the neck wall. I had it loaded last week with 40.5 grain of IMR 4350. These load chronograph at 2818 fps and no signs of pressure at all. I will revisit this load and hope this will solve my pressure issue.

What bushing are you using and how much of the neck are you sizing?
I'm ordering Wilson neck and seater die. I'm currently full length sizing my cases using Foster Benchrest. The neck measured exactly .288 which is just about perfect for a .290 neck diameter of the loaded round. That gave me .002 tension. I will get a .287 and .288 bushings to go with Wilson.
