Wow, very nice rifle and man, it is a shooter! What a nice build. Thank you for posting it. Hard to beat the 300 Win Mag...

That is a nice one.

Are the Berger Hybrids for hunting or just targets?

I think there is a fellow on LRH who has been using them Fotis. Seems like a pretty even keeled guy and says they are working well for him. I would like to see more of them in the jugs. 215-230 grains of bullet out of a Win Mag should be pretty decent. I don't plan on switching up anytime soon, but it seems like this feller has done well with them.

Personally I used the VLd's on game and they did OK.

That said I do not foresee anything impressive with them on jugs, like we're use to.
They just work differently.

Great looking rifle, and it obviously delivers the goods when required to do so.

Thanks. Nice rig. Someday, I'd like to end up with a .338 Edge pretty similar to that one.

Berger says the Hybrid's are for targets but there are people on LRH and I know a few others that have used them on game and have seen the same performance as the VLD hunting bullets. I'm going to give the 215 grain Hybrid a try this season I think. I finally got a good load worked up for this rifle.

BK,
I almost went with a .338 Edge when I had this built but went with .300 Win. Mag. to save money and I figured the .300 would do anything I'd need it to, and it has. I've shot well over 1,000 yards with it and it has never let me down. The .338 Edge does have more horsepower but for as far as I feel comfortable shooting at game, the .300 WIn. Mag. is more than enough.

I am with you Fotis, but I like to see others results as well. Plus, if they work for them, and the confidence in the bullet is high, chances are, they will work.. Just my thoughts, but I would love to see one of the 215 or 230's ran into jugs. Don't see many of the heavyweights given the abuse. Hopefully 300 WM will show us the goods!

Very cool, and it and you shoot great. A great combination, what powder are you using and what does the rifle weigh?

Nice build and shooting always like to see the heavies. The target or yellow box bergers have a thicker jacket on them than the hunting bullets from what i have been told and i have not used them on game yet, will use the 230 berger on deer and post my results this fall. i bought three boxes of the 30 cal 230gr hybrids to use in my 300 norma build the bc is .743 which is almost identical to a 300gr sierra in .338 i think that is a .748 bc. the 300 norma will push that to 3000 fps so it will shoot as flat as a 338 lapua with a 300 gr sierra with less recoil and powder. however a 338 lapua using a 300g berger hybrid will out do it both in the trajectory and impact energy. glad to see someone pushing the envelope in the 30 cal arena. the 300 win is no slouch with the 230 berger either.

Elkman,

The rifle weighs in at about 15lbs. For powder I've had great results with stiff charges of H4831 SC with all three of the Berger's I've shot through this rifle. Those include the 210 grain VLD, 215 grain Hybrid, and 230 grain Hybrid. I've also played with H1000 with all three of those but it did not perform as well for me. RL-22 also shot well with the 210's but I went with H4831 SC because it's an extreme powder. I don't know if it will make a huge difference but accuracy and velocity were nearly identical so what could it hurt.

I'm really excited for the 215 Hybrid, I just finished up load development today with the 215 and it shoots great! I loaded it hot with H4831 SC and got sub 3" groups at 450 yards. They chronographed at 2932fps (not to bad eh?).
I then took some shots at small rocks on a salt lick, ranges were 688, 727, and 864 yards. All three shots were within inches. I'll have to go out and verify my ballistics program more finely on paper but initial results are looking very promising.

USMC 89,
The 300 Norma with a 230 Berger is a deadly combination. i don't know if you've seen it but on Berger's website their is a picture of a 17 year old kid and Bryan Litz that shot a hog at 1824 yards with a .300 Norma and the 230 Berger. Here's an article that deals with what you wrote about, you might find it interesting.

That was a great article you posted. Thank you. Pretty cool stuff! That 300 Norma does look to be made for distance! It is even cooler to see so much props thrown at the old 300 Win Mag as well. Still one of the best going when loaded well.

That is one good looking rifle with a 28" tube it will definitely reach out and touch something!!

Blessings,
Dan

The rifle look really nice... and a shooter to boot. 300 Winchester Magnum is one of my favorite cartridge. Congrats.

i did read that when i bought that magazine that is kind of what got me interested in the 300 norma that and a 2.5" case length. he also mentions shooting pigs with a 308 win past the 1k mark, well past it. i should have the action back from heat treat in a couple weeks and everything but the reamer is here so it shouldnt be much more than a month or so now looking forward to shooting it. will be putting an elite iron bravo suppressor on this as soon as i can get the form 4 back.
