That is ALOT of money for a CDL 35 Whelen buddy. I think they should go for about 700.00 most places, maybe a little more. 1099.00 was WAY too much. You already have a sweet Whelen and probably much better than any CDL coming off the line nowadays. Scotty

Here are a couple decent buys out there.

This one is 475.00.. I like the ADL, no magazine to deal with and is probably a shooter, being an older Remington.

This one could probably be had for right around the current bid. Don't see it going up too much.

On edit, It looks like Remington is discontinuing their chambering of the 35 Whelen in the CDL! Travesty of sorts. Maybe Winchester will pick it up. Scotty

Since they are no longer produced, they will fetch an exaggerated price. That may not be so far out of line. Nevertheless, I'd be tempted to ask the local gun peddler if he is able to move on the cost of the rifle.

I'm not really on the market for any guns at the moment but I will say the CDL does look impressive.

Scotty,
I love my 700 Classic Whelen, but hey a 24" tube would make my 225 AB fly a little faster don't ya know!!!!!!

Good point Don. Although you won't miss a darn thing buddy. Maybe 50 FPS at most. I like the CDL but if I had a Classic, I wouldnt complain a bit. Should get the Minox 3x9 with the German #4 on it pretty quick. Should make a great combo for hunting the woods and open spaces alike. Scotty

Scotty is right, not much velocity difference between 22"" and 24" barrels with the 35 Whelen.
My 250 gr PT load with 59.5 grs RL 15 gets 2581 fps from a 22" barrel.

No way would I pay $1100 for a stock Remington Whelen, unless it was a Ti, or a KS Mountain Rifle.

Now if I could find a .270 or '06 M70 Sporter for $500, I would drop $600 at PacNor for a Whelen barrel.

Wow, now that I see that in writing, it looks pretty stupid. I'd probably still do it, though.

Don, I understand... Was in a local gun shop the other day - picked up some .30 cal Partitions in 180 & 200 grains. On the rack was a 700 CDL in .30-06 that looked really nice. It felt good when I picked it up. Everything looks perfect. They wanted $800 for it and I put it back, but dang it haunts me. Would be a perfect companion to my .25-06 CDL....

JD,
I know buddy, my 225 AB load goes 2677 fps, they won't die any quicker going 50fps more. With some tweaking I could maybe pick up a little more speed but what for? It kills so good now as is!

Heck for 1100.00 I could most likely get two guns with as little shopping!

Your still working with Varget as well, right Don? If you give RL15 a try, I think you'll push into the 2700's pretty easily. But then again, another 50 FPS isn't going to gain you much. Scotty

Scotty,
I'm using R15 right now. I think I purchased some Varget awhile back, just never got to try it yet.
Honestly I don't think it's worth the effort to gain, what 50fps? The current load will kill anything I'm going to hunt.

About 4 years ago, it seemed Remington was clearing out stock of 35 Whelen CDLs. They were selling for $450 On Gunbroker. Should have bought a bunch!!!

Would like to see a Remington xcr in 35 Whelen. Or better yet a Tikka in 35 Whelen!!!

Yeah, no kidding. I think I paid 650 or so for mine. I thought I got a great deal. It is a great rifle though. Even with the 1-16" twist it runs 250's really well and that is about all I can hope for. Scotty

Well nothing is surer than that as they all have stoped producing the Whelens; that the price will go nuts! I could only find ONE Ruger Hawkeye left in the USA for sale, and it was down in FL and the guy wants $900 for that as well! I think as they dry up; those will crack a grand as well. Like you said I should have just purchased a dozen of them; and stashed them away 2 years ago when you could buy them just the same as any other caliber!
Like I posted on this subject a while back , an old friend of mine paid $380 to rebarrel one way back in 1979 when gas was .60 cents a gallon and he made $150 per week! So it has always been an expensive way to go. To be able to buy these factory guns for $5-600 dollars in a Whelen was a smokin deal. Apparently they have saturated the market, and have no plans on running them again in the fore seeable future????????

I shoot Left Handed, the Whelen Dad gave me is Right Hand. But who cares, I only need one shot with this Caliber. Just one Smokin Gun!

If Winchester comes out with a Whelen I may have to buy one.
