We've been enjoying the bratwurst & pepperoni snack sticks for months, but he just got the hide & skull back from his Sept 2013 Washington bear. Pretty cool. The hide came out very nice! Typical Washington black bear, a chocololate brown with some red in it. We'd guess around 300 pounds or a bit more, live weight.

Congratulations on connecting on another bear. Last years bear sure has a great colour. Thanks for the photos :).
Hope we may get to see a few photos of this years hunt:)!

Blessings,
Dan

Congratulations. Beautiful color on that bear hide. Never have been bear hunting. Have run across black bear and grizzly while bow hunting elk in Wyoming.

Nice colour on that bear Guy, and nice skull too 8) ..I have a few hanging in the garage too, good luck in August pal!..If I shoot a nice one, I might get another shoulder mount, or 3/4 mount done

Looks as if that is a fine job. I'm certain he is proud of the memories he'll see on an ongoing basis. It is indeed a beautiful hide.

Thanks guys. That's his second bear, and he's real pleased. Kind of wanted to do a full rug, instead of just a tanned hide, but Dad's checkbook was running a little tight about that point, and Mama said there are enough bear rugs around the house.

The taxidermist did tell him that he'd get a big discount if he wanted the hide turned into a rug at some point in the future.

It was a good hunt, and having the hide & skull around is great. Almost out of bear brats though!

Good thing bear season is only a month away!

Congratulations. It is an excellent trophy. It must have been a wonderful hunt.

Very Nice. I need another bear in my life or two. Are they good to eat or just tolerable in Brats & Sausage ? Thanks & you are lucky to have your Son hunting with you.

Black bear can be excellent to barely palatable. If the bear has been feeding on oats (or other grains) or berries or in an orchard, the meat can be excellent as fine beef. A bear taken from carrion or from a garbage dump will carry the odour and texture that is less than delightful. I enjoy a fall bear that is taken off an oat field. Farmers are usually glad to have you take the critter as they can be very destructive.

Agree. Bear can taste surprisingly good. We just had this one made into brats & pepperoni, but dang... Those have been excellent!
