good afternoon, I won an auction of brass. I’m cleaning it up and then sorting out. I took a chance and it and pretty much need none of it. There were 20 pieces of 308 fireformed to basically straight except the mouth which looks like it had a crimp on it. I’m assuming it was done in a chamber shorter than the brass but have no idea what the conversion was to. Anyone have any idea what it might be? Also I have 60 pieces of 338-40 ackley improved. It headstamped 30-40 krag. If anyone wants to try and convert it back let me know and for a small price($20) and a prepaid little usps box I think is like ten bucks you can have it.

Pictures would help.
308 fired in a 30-06? Would be a tough one on the extractor.

image.jpgimage.jpgGoing to throw it out as I have thousands of 308 brass but I’m ADD and kinda need to know what it is. I don’t remember any cut down 308 except an odd pistol round which I don’t remember.

I believe it might have been the start of 44 automag. Just don’t know what it would have been fired in. Maybe a 30-06 ackley chamber

My guy beat it, I had 20. Same exact thing with the primers. In all honesty I didn’t think that a 308 would chamber in a 30-06 because at the shoulder it was wider than an 06. Never actually measured it just looking at the dimensions I really thought it was considerably larger because the case was straighter. Guess that is blown out with visual proof

Could have been worse. Saw a Ron Spomer video where he admitted to putting a 7mm08 shell in the chamber of a 25-06. He showed the case after firing to remind shooters to be careful and not have more than one cartridge on the bench when shooting. Can't imagine the pressure that caused.

Same can be said about dropping a 20 ga into a 12 ga chamber and then putting in a 12 ga shell.
This never ends well.
