As most of you know I love the Lee case length gage and have used them for ever. Unfortunately they do not make anything under 22 caliber even as a custom.

So gotta get a new trimmer. which one. I need accurate repeatable trimmings.

I need it to trim from 17 hornet to 416 wby.

Can I get all the accessories to trim from the 17-416 wby? Can it handle long cases like that?

Fotis,
It will take pistol all the way to rifle. I use mine for the 416 Rigby all the way to 9mm pistol. You buy collets to put the shell in and the collet sits on a rail and you lock it down with the shark fin attachment over the top. Once you set the back screw for length you just put the shells in, cut and out it goes ready for the next one. I have had mine for over 25 years. You just buy collets for the shells.

Just collets? No pilots or cutters?

Fotis,
No pilots. The one and only cutter is at one end and the screw is at the other. I had the regular cutter and changed it to a carbide and that was the best move I made. They even have a micro-meter attachment at the screw end that you can change out for micro ajustments. They also have power adapters for the cutter side. Sinclair has them as well as Midway.

Fotis,
Whats also cool is the 308 family collet will fit all of them as well as the 30-06 collets. You get the picture. Saves on collets.

Fotis,
I also have the Little Crow trimmer for my black out. They hook up to the power drill. I use it for when I have LOTS of shells to trim. But for the 90% of my trimming its the Wilson.

I hate trimming. I need an elf or something that will come in at night and trim my brass like in that shoe maker story when I was a kid.

There used to be elves in Canada, but we shot them out. Apparently, some people still look for elves out west.

Any recommendations on good states for spot and stalk bear and any experiences with outfitters? Is this something people go out west specifically to do or is it an add-on type tag to a scheduled mule deer/elf hunt.

I doubt we have much chance to get those elves trimming brass any time soon. However, if it works for you, I may start sending all my brass down to you.

Yup we chased those little elves up into northern BC if I remember right 8) .
As far as a trimmer I still use my Forester that I have had for nearly 30 years :). I just received pilots for it today in the mail.

Blessings,
Dan

Fotis,
I like Wilson trimmers....

That is the one I am going to get when it comes time to upgrade. They seem to be the most accurate trimmer on the market right now. Quality stuff and the shellholders look like they work really slick!

I have a Lyman that I really like, including a powered adapter to hook up to a power drill or, a tip I got that makes even more sense, a powered screw driver that will be cheaper and turn slower.

Another tip I got was to stop using pilots. I did so, and have not looked back. The Lyman's universal chuck takes everything from my 300WSM/300H&H cases to my 30 Carbine , and centers/squares it if I insert the case correctly. The few issues I've had were because I got sloppy with getting the case in the jaws of the universal chuck correctly.

Now, my wife just got me a Hornady prep center, so I may not be using the Lyman much anymore. We'll see.

I haven't had any brass to prep since I got it, but I tried it out on a few tired pieces that are due to be chucked anyway, and the trimmer works AWESOME. I'm anxious to get to using it when I start doing 25-06 load development.

I have the Wilson trimmer and I feel it's a good unit. I recently bought the base and the drill chuck adapter and now I no longer abhor trimming. Very repeatable and simple to use.
